Do you like your Droid Maxx?

Hello. I'm a newbie to these forums. I've been lurking and decided to post so I could ask you guys what you think of the Droid Maxx. Do you recommend this phone? I currently have a Droid Bionic and I'm due for an upgrade. I've been looking at the Droid Maxx, Samsung Galaxy S4 and also the Samsung Note 3. I like the big battery in this phone. I played with at verizon and I liked it more than the S4 plus it has a much bigger battery. I'm really down to the Note 3 because of the huge screen or the Droid Maxx. The salesperson seemed like he was steering me away from the Droid Maxx for some reason, but of course he's an iphone guy so I didn't pay much attention to that. Now that the price has dropped to $199 I'm really leaning towards the Maxx. I'm really glad I waited and didn't buy it for $299. Actually that price tag is what kept me from buying it. How is it with software upgrades, if there have even been any yet? The Bionic was always one of the last to get upgrades, is this the case with the Maxx too.

If I recall correctly there has been one software update but it was available at launch so I have no idea how or what it improved. I do feel like this is the best phone I've ever had though. I don't feel like I'm compromising for one thing over another since Motorola was able to put enough memory, processing speed, great screen and amazing battery life all into one. What else can one ask for?

I love mine. Best phone I have ever had. No updates yet. Fantastic battery life. Have had it 2 weeks & only charged it 3 times & have never been below 32%.

I am totally satisfied with my Droid Maxx! I don't think you can go wrong with it. Wish I were eligible for the new lower price but I got my Maxx the second day it was out so I am well outside of the 30 days for a price adjustment (darn).

I would definitely go with the Maxx. Internally it's the same as the Moto X and the x is the best phone I've ever used! Motorola's new software is basically stock android with some very useful features such as active notifications which allow you to see your messages/notifications without having to turn on your display, touchless controls for voice commands and Motorola connect (my favorite feature) which allows you to text or get call notifications via a chrome browser extension. Most reviews of the Maxx I've seen are great. As far as software updates are concerned, I wouldn't worry about Motorola's track record as they are now owned by Google. Although software updates will be slow due to Verizon, I would anticipate much more support than previous moto devices received.

Now that the Maxx is 199 to me it's an easy decision over the N3. Not that the N3 isn't great, but if you like stock android and a device that won't be impeded by manufacturer's over bloated skin, you will love the Maxx.

The salesperson told me the Droid Maxx was pretty much the same as the Moto X, but smaller battery. For me the small battery is a non-starter. It's smaller than what I have in my Droid Bionic. Now the price of the MotoX and the Maxx are the same. I was actually surprised the Maxx came down so much. I was expecting it to drop by $50, but $100 is even better. Did the Moto X come out after the Maxx? Can't figure out why they are the same price.

I'm thinking about going on my lunch break and getting the Maxx. I'm really excited about the price drop. I think that might be what I needed to make my decision. Was going to get the Note 3 because it could double as a tablet, but if I get a hybrid laptop then I don't need a tablet. Plus I might have trouble fitting the bigger phone in one of my smaller purses.

One question, when I do get my new phone will I still be able to go on the internet via WIFI with my old Bionic?

Is there a FM radio tuner on this phone? I had an app on my Bionic, but it no longer worked after the Jelly Bean update. I like the radio so I can listen to local games and not have to do it over the internet. I think you can't listen to NFL games online anyways.

No, there is no radio tuner.

Bionic should be good to go as a wifi device. Think you will love the Droid Maxx. Happy to see Motorola back. My Droid X was still my favorite.

Thanks. That stinks, but not a deal breaker. I think most smartphones don't have FM tuners anymore. I'm not sure why. I loved being able to pick up games on my phone when I'm at work or on the go.

Could always try TuneIn Radio from the Play Store. Has a lot of local stations.

Best phone I've owned to date. I've had the Blackberry Storm, Storm 2, Fascinate, HTC Rezound, HTC DNA none of them were as good. Part of that is just the progress of technology. New capabilities, but the battery life is what does it for me. I need a phone first not a camera or a game machine. This is it.

It's online. You can't listen to games that way. It's no big deal.

Ah, sorry. :(

I have SiriusXM so I have the option to listen to games online. So funny that they get rid of OTA radio now that data is at a premium. :(

I'll join the chorus - this is a great phone. I am sure that the GS4 and the Note 3 are also great phones. You can't really go wrong with any of them. I like the Maxx for the stock Android build, and especially for the battery, but you can always install a custom launcher on the Samsungs and come close anyway. There are some things about the Maxx that I wish were better or different, but not much, and I could easily say that about any phone model.

As somebody else mentioned, there was an update that was available on launch day (I bought mine on launch day about 10 minutes after the store opened, and was activating it at 9:30 am and watched as the update installed.)

Motorola seems to be talking a good game about providing updates to their phones going forward, and have a pretty good track record with phones since the Motorola buyout; also, there is one out for the X (for all but Verizon so far, and that should be available soon.) We'll see what happens going forward, I guess.

Love this phone! Huge upgrade from my old iPhone 4. Never going back to apple again! Kinda sad about this recent price drop, any info on if you can get a price alteration if purchased within 30 days?

Either call verizon or go into the store. However, the store I went into the Maxx is still listed as $299. I would try calling.

I was bummed that it was still listed at $299 at the store. I wanted to buy it today. Guess I'll have to wait a little for the price drop at the store.

I'll say this after two weeks now...I finally have a phone that's part of my life and not interfering with it! I don't have to worry about the battery...I can issue voice commands, it's unobtrusive for me now. That's new.
