The note 5 had did have the Samsung chipset in it in the US. Sounds like something of a monopoly if you ask me. Probably why apple is going after Qualcomm after they started using Intel modems instead of Qualcomm modems.

It boils down to whatever is cheapest. Samsung will do whatever is best for their bottom line. At the time of the note 5, the flagship Qualcomm chip didn't have the modem built into the soc so Samsung decided to use Samsung cpu with the Qualcomm modem

So you're saying Qualcomm chips are cheaper than what Samsung Exynos chips they're producing?

Qualcomm soc will be more i am guessing.
I am assuming Qualcomm soc with built in baseband processor is cheaper than exynos with discrete Qualcomm baseband processor
