I love the back of the phone and it came with a cover when I bought it, but is it really needed?

It seems the back is more scratch prone than the Gorilla Glass front. At the same time, the back is decorative, so scratches won't affect function, and different people have different views on whether they "need" to keep their tools looking pretty, or just working right.

Even among people who want to keep a phone looking good, the need for protective films or skins is going to be different for someone who uses a phone holster than for someone who throws their phone in their pocket (or purse) with keys and a pocket knife and sand.

I should clarify my vote (dropped and damaged). It was a very minor dent to the bezel, not the actual front or back glass. I go back and forth between no case and several different cases.

I don't count what happened as a drop. I put the phone down on a tile counter, but I guess luck was against me. The back shattered. I'd already ordered my case, but it didn't arrive in time.

nb

The phone still works fine though. And with my case, You can't tell it's gone the way of the T-1000 after a run in with liquid nitrogen.

I really like these, had something similar on my samsung galaxy S. I will probably go to something like this if the back gets scratched up/cracked. I run my devices into the ground so no need to keep resale value :P

i use SPG backscreen protector and its keeping my baby scratch free, just incase so i can sell it perfect condition later :D

I want this exact skin. Have you dropped the phone at all with it on? And does a case fit with the skin installed?

I have not dropped with the skin and yes a case fits no problem

I alternate between the Evecase Heavy Duty Hybrid Case with Stand and the Poetic Slimbook Leather Case.

I've been rocking it naked since December & still no noticeable scratches though I am careful what surface I put it on.

I use a hybrid case.
It has a bumper with a clear back. I dropped it once and the phone suffered no damage.
You can't really see the details of the back of the phone as the case reflects most of the light, this really sucks since I like the looks of the phone. Also dust gets in and under the case and you have to take it off to clean it out pretty often.
However, my case is pretty scratched up now and I'd be scared to see what the phone would look like if I didn't have one.

I am considering doing a test with just a bumper case and a Zagg back protector. See if that makes the back stand out a bit more.

I just took the case off my Nexus 4, and I think I will be joining you in rocking it naked. It just feels so much better without a case.

I carry mine in my pocket or place it on a table most of the time, so I have a front/back screen protector. I hate having anything on my phone, but I like to make sure I don't destroy it the first year. After that I usually keep it naked. I think the back is most important for me because I place/slide it on my desk or table often rather than holding it in my hand.

I currently have an ArmorSuit protector, and the back peels with my bumper. No problem with the front, other than the 200 squeegee marks. I'm trying with a BestSkinsEver next.

Yeah i've got a Ringke Slim case which feels really nice and is very thin...however there are times when I take it out and just marvel at how much better it feels without a case. Haha then I go look at the broken glass thread, chicken out, and put my case back on. Maybe with a vinyl skin I could be a little more brave.

I use a dbrand (original titanium) back also with the original bumper. When I want more protection, I easily switch the bumper for the diz tpu case. Nothing on the front.
