I got Lookout with my Tmobile plan, but I also have Avast for mobile which I haven't installed (not sure if better)... does anyone else use or not use AV programs? IF so why?

No, I don't see the point. I don't go to questionable sites or download questionable apps. Most antivirus apps cause more problems then their worth in my opinion.

They just slow down your phone. It's really of no use in my opinion.

+1 to not using any antivirus.

Waste of precious CPU power (and therefore battery life) IMO. If my mobile device gets borked (and it never has due to malware/virus) I'll simply wipe it clean and start over.

I use lookout for the same reasons as the OP as I'm a TMO customer. I haven't noticed any loss of speed or battery life since installing it.

No anti virus here either tried it once on my N2 and it bogged down the phone

I use CCS*. It works great. It's light, fast, and has kept my many Android phones absolutely malware free since 2011. It's not in the Play Store though but it is free.

There was a recent article on the front page that talks about AV for Android. It isn't really necessary.
If you start installing unauthorized apk's you may have issues.
Find the article. Interesting read.

I use AVG and Norton.
No lag or negative impact on my device at all.

Yes Mr Toad, I meant clean master. I usually proof read my stuff but missed that. I think alot of them are gimmicks too. I read a great post from a link in one of these threads that talks about how Android works and why Anti-virus and those apps are kind of pointless
