Do you use Hangouts for SMS?

I am starting to get the feeling that the Nexus line of phones is not what I expected them to be .
Being a " Google designed cellphone " I really expected a much higher level of software quality and performance .
Yes I know the phone is VERY CHEAP , that is not the reason I bought it , I bought it because it is a NEXUS !
I have the Nexus 5 and am not happy with the most basic of things , the telephone part of the cellphone
it is most definitely not user friendly nor is the LG menu .

P.S . I was disappointing to hear that LG was making the Nexus 5 because of this very bad menu layout ( this is my opinion ).

So basically you're unhappy with the stock Android OS?

So " The Golden Word " here seems to be GOOGLE +...I don't and won't have Google +... My wife has Google + and her Hangouts works just fine .
If , like Apple forces use , I am forced to have Google + so as to be able to use other Google apps to there full ,
I will most definitely use a third party app and will consider leave Android when the time come to
replace my cell ...

u jus said that u wnated to use google app which google+ is

Google+ is such a pain in the ***! i don't like that forcible actions to make us use G+ ! They've talked about this new Hangouts app that supposedly will allow you to call for free on any phone number... that will probably and most definitely will require a G+ account. Damn u!

I'm using it and like it well enough now that I've gotten used to it. I want it to sync with desktop hangouts (including SMS) and I'd like to see an option to thread by contact rather than being forced to separate them by IM and SMS, but the promise of eventually getting GVoice integration will keep me using it for the time being.

I've decided to finally give Hangouts a chance for a while starting today. This is partially because I noticed that when I use the "OK Google" command to text contacts, the text goes through, but it doesn't show any evidence of it in the text log of the SMS/MMS app I had been using (Textra). This little thing annoyed me enough to get me to see if these spoken word texts would show up in Hangouts....and they did.

One thing I do like better about Hangouts: in a group message, the picture of each person involved is next to each one of their messages. With Textra, you can only see the persons name next to their respective message(s).

A few things I don't like about Hangouts:

both sender and receivers chat bubbles are white and this can't be changed

no dark mode available

don't like the system emoji's available to use

Started experiencing problems with hangouts like sending double messages, not sending messages and various others so switched to Textra.
I prefer this as it's slightly more customizable, no problems and I think it just looks better.

Well....stopped using Hangouts pretty quick. Wasn't able to send or receive MMS/picture messages with it. Tried Chomp right afterwards. Certain things about it I liked quite a bit, but....once again, MMS/pic messages not working. So now I'm back to Textra, with the one thing really annoying me about it being that any texts sent via voice commands do not appear in the text log (despite being sent just fine).

Hangouts. Don't love it, but it works and I don't feel like using an extra app.

BTW: no problems with anything in Hangouts. Mms, etc all work flawlessly. Jus hard to choose between a hangout and sms. Would be better if that was auto.
