Dock use in a Jeep. On the fence about them.

I'm really close to just saying screw it and go buy the sixty dollar Sprint contraption but have a couple questions.
First off, I drive a Jeep Wrangler- YJ to be specific. For the non-Jeep folk, YJ's are leaf sprung at all four corners and ride rough as can be. Mine has no vents to use a vent mount, and Pro-Clip does not make a mount for a YJ
With that being said, the pictures(on Sprints site and user photos), it looks like the stem from the actual dock to the suction mount is an old school radio antenna. Is that what its is? If so, its it pretty stable?
What about it taking bumps and bounces? Does it lock my beloved EVO in tight enough that it isn't going to take a tumble onto the floorboard, or worse yet go flying out the side when my doors are off  ?

I see other choices out there but I'd rather stay with a specific mount for it. The Siedo dock looks like a decent mount but I want to only purchase one, and only one time.

I just bought the $60 mount from Sprint last week and I love it. I drive an 04 Mustang and it stays on the dash perfectly. It also is the nicest looking mount that I have purchased or seen for any phone. Well worth the money. Its very sturdy.

Thanks rkeenan. It is a nice looking mount, I guess I just need to go over to the Sprint store and look it over up close.

You are welcome. I hope if you purchase it, you will enjoy it. I love mine. Its the first Evo mount that I saw that didnt look junky.

Check out RAM mounts. They don't have a device specific holder but I just got their universal finger holder which works great with my seidio innocase active. They also have tons of mounting options. I have been looking at car mounts for months and finally stumbled across the RAM stuff and couldn't be happier.

Those RAM mounts look interesting... which base are you using?

ETA: Also, if you could get a picture of it, with your phone in it, I would love to see it!

I actually got the base designed for motorcycles. It's a bolt through design and I drilled a small hole in a removable storage pocket in my truck's dash. I will try to get pics up sometime soon but it might take me a couple days. The universal holder is nice too because it comes with several different length "fingers" which can be mixed and matched. I don't have to use the two end plates either because the fingers hold it by themselves. There are videos floating around somewhere (I think they're on GPS city but don't quote me on that).

I've used RAM before, and they make quality stuff. However, I am looking more into the specific holder. This is the most expensive phone I've bought and just hate the thought of a universal holder letting the EVO loose and it goes flying out the door/window.

I feel your pain. I drive an '07 Wrangler Rubicon and I've tried 3 so far.

This one was rock solid but the clip to hold the naked evo in broke when I tried to mount the phone when it was freezing outside.

This one is for an iPhone and is the easiest to take in and out but also can only be used with a naked EVO, bounces around and I doubt it would hold upon any type of impact.

This is a generic and also bounces around but works with any cover / battery.

I haven't tried the OEM or Seido mounts.

I went to Sprint Saturday afternoon to get my girlfriend a new phone and got one of the OEM mounts out of the box and checked it out. That thing seems rock solid. The stem, mount and holder are all tight and looks pretty well made. The holder itself its really slick- has a pivoting bottom where the charger plugs into the port on the phone, and locks the phone in tight.

The only downside I see is that it covers the camera(others have complained about this too). I believe that there is enough 'meat' on the strap that it can be drilled out enough for the camera to see through.

Even after all of that, I still couldn't see it costing sixty bones. Seen a few on ebay going for 35 to 40. May just go that route.

I hope ya find what ya are looking for. I dropped $60 for the OEM and couldnt be happier. Everyone compliments me on the Evo mount.

Crap... I just ordered a mount that is essentially a combo of the ones above - it has the mount from 1 and the arm from 2.

I am hoping to be able to counter the bouncing around part by supporting it with my dash... not sure what I can do about the fragile in cold weather issue.

Anyone have a part number or better description of this.

I don't see a $60 mount on their site?
