Hello, do we know for certain whether the 2.17.651.5 update will also update to hboot 1.5, or if it will leave it at 1.4??
Thanks.

Just speaking for myself, I would not try it. For one thing, if you run updates OTA you risk getting all of them, which would change your hboot. If you are on the fence about rooting, go to the Rooting section and do some reading. The rooted stock ROM is already available and rooting with Revolutionary is a lot less complicated than the HTC method. Not trying to sway you one way or another, but it sounds like you are at the verge of taking the plunge. Good luck! :)

I am actually already rooted and s-off.
Just not in the mood to reinstall all of my apps, etc. ;-)
But looks like I will be doing just that in order to avoid botching my hboot.

Thanks.

Well, you probably know this already, but you can back up your apps using Titanium Backup and restore them once you flash the updated stock ROM. If your contacts are synced through Google then you'll automatically get them back once you add your Google account back. As a chronic ROM flasher, I can tell you that the more you do it the easier it gets. I started out on the stock ROM but now alternate through several. :)

Just to give you some additional information, a person posted on another forum who took the update and lost root. He was already on hboot 1.5. While this update may not change the hboot, it can still cause you to unroot. At the very least you would have to go through the rooting process again. The "veterans " around here will always advise that once you are rooted you should never take an OTA update, no matter how minor it may appear. I am surprised some of those more experienced people haven't chimed in here. I'm not trying to be a pain or tell you what to do, just saying that the risk of losing root to me isn't worth taking the update. Even when ICS comes to us a stock rooted version will be available to us rooted folks almost immediately.

Exactly! NEVER take an OTA if you are rooted. Just ask all the people that took the update that forced HBOOT 1.5 on them. Sometimes there are sneaky things lurking in these updates that are not initially known.

Anyway I installed it and re installed all my apps.
It runs well - and interestingly the FM radio now gets better signal. I was never able to get clear tuning of NPR among others, and now it's clear. Strange but true.

Im already on 1.5 and whats the worst that can happen, not being able to root. i take a risk everyday i get out of bed....lol :D
