Does anyone use the battery saving features?

The first thing I did do is whitelist all the apps because I do not want to miss notifications etc. But I am doing a few things depending on what part of my day it is.

At Work, checking notifications and listening to music/podcasts
Power Plan: Smart
ROG: Enabled

At a concert with poor reception but still taking pictures
Power Plan: Smart
ROG: Disabled

Home, playing games, watching videos, surfing the social media seas
Power Plan: Performance
ROG: Disabled

I find that the ROG being enabled just makes the screen a little darker and less sharp to my eyes but perfectly fine for text messages and selecting playlists etc. The smart mode doesn't have a huge drag on my performance unless I am doing it a lot, it also doesn't seem to noticeably slow down the finger print sensor.

I also have all of my apps "protected" from being put to sleep. The default setup of this phone is much too aggressive about "killing" apps to try and save battery power, IMO.

In fact, I had a bout of bad battery life because of the way this phone wants to make apps go to sleep. It was apparently putting some Google app to sleep (I'm not sure which one it was because I installed a number of apps at the same time) and when it put one of these Google apps to sleep, the "AndroidSystem" battery use went through the roof. It was at the top of the list for battery usage and was hitting my battery hard.

I then switched to protecting all of my apps from being put to sleep and the problem went away.

And I still get great battery life this way, so for me there's really no need to have this phone try to be so aggressive with conserving the battery from app usage.

I set all my phones to full performance unless I will be far from a charger for an extended period of time

I keep it on Smart all the time, haven't had any issues. I only set ROG if I'm out and my battery is between 20-28%. As you said, there really isn't a big difference with it on. It seems like ROG adds an hour to your battery life. I always get over a day without doing any additional work.

As for notifications, I get them anyway, I just whitelist the apps that I want them from since it is just a few that I need them for (like 12).

I've had mine off the charger since maybe 11 pm last night and haven't charged it since. Using Smart saving settings. With mixed usage at the office I've gotten over five hours of SoT with like 20% left with 5 minutes left in my day before going home.
