Does battery saving apps really work?

I'm following some of Mr. AT&T's advice...(not gonna be a hater!) I wiped my cache partition, and for one thing the phone (which is on a custom ROM to get Lollipop on a Note 2) rebooted way quicker than it usually does. And I'm going to install Watchdog and see what that tells me.

My Rant of the Day...

...apps like clean master speed up charging time and clean junk
They do not, cannot, have any effect on charging time. Cleaning junk rarely, if ever, needs to be done and has no effect on performance. And you should never, ever install anything by Cheetah Mobile!

I know that CM's Battery Saver both extended my battery time, but more importantly, reduced my charging time dramatically on my Galaxy Note 2.
Impossible for it to cut charging time. Simply. Impossible. See the links below about Cheetah Mobile products and why they should be considered malware!

Just installed DU Battery Saver. Don't like it, and several feature are paid-only for the PRO version. Switching back to BatteryDoctor and going to try to recoup the last half-hour of my life.
DU Battery Saver is one of the worst apps ever available for Android. Ineffective - yes it is, like all such so-called battery savers. Worse, it throws up nag ads, false scary-sounding warnings, etc. And maybe even worse than that, like Cheetah Mobile apps, DU data-mines your info and sends it back to DU and to who knows who else. All apps by DU and Baidu (DU's parent company) should be considered malware and avoided at all costs! Battery Doctor is another Cheetah Mobile app. Enough said.

See these links and the links in them for more information:

The 1st link inside this link is a long thread about DU Battery, Battery Doctor and much, much more. A veritable treasure trove of good information and knowledge by some very smart people. The other links are good too.

This list of apps and companies to be avoided barely scratches the surface of what's out there, but it should help a little:

EDIT: I goofed and put some wrong links in this. Changed the links. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Before installing any App look at the permissions it ask for. A battery saving App does not need to look at your contacts and photos or music! I started to install an App and it wanted access to everything on my phone. Just say NO to any App like this!

I did a small test to see if battery doctor worked;
I installed it, opened it and it said my battery was in terrible condition and gave the impression that it was the end of the world...
I then cleaned the battery and then I was told that the battery was in good condition.
I then cleared the data of the app and opened it again, and once again it told me that the battery was in terrible condition

Basically it doesn't work...

My lg k7 would be 100% when I wake up. But then dead by noon. :( it's a brand new phone. Just got it in January! And I. Not using any of those apps. I leave battery saver on all the time and keep he screen dim nothing does any good.

Best power saving technique is to use the power saving mode given by Samsung/OEMs because it works both on hardware and software level rather than normal apps which just control brightness and stuff which doesn't help in better battery in any way.

If you really want better battery life, don't constantly off and on location services. Keep it either on or off.

If you travel, put off location services because it constantly tries to watch the wifi hotspots and networks and try to report location to google which might use up battery life a lot.

Poor signal coupled with your phone trying to load stuff is the number one reason which causes battery drain most of the time.

Don't clear RAM because resuming apps on RAM is much better battery saver than restarting the apps again and again.

I never use any anti virus apps or battery savers or cache cleaners (which half of the time mess up things than fix them).

Don't clear cache unless you are out of storage or didn't clear it for a month.

Half the time, people make battery life worse by cleaning cache or clearing RAM which puts more pressure on the processor to reloading things.

Let the system do its work. Android automatically does everything for you. OEMs provide power saving mode optimized for that hardware.

P.S I once installed RAM usage meter on my iPad and I was shocked to see that system constantly takes up 80-90% of the RAM all the time.
I didn't even notice it until I installed the app. Android and iOS automatically manage your RAM.
Free RAM = waste RAM. No use of having 500MB free RAM because its useless without using it.

Linux and mobile OS works different from Windows PC. So, free RAM in windows is different from free RAM in Linux. (google search it)
