you lose all of your settings? I downloaded CM7 and restored all my apps and set up the phone the way I wanted it. I decided to try out a new kernel so I put it on my sd card and used rom manager to install it. That worked great until it rebooted and I realized I had to start all over again setting up my phone. I new this happened when installing a new rom but I didn't think it happened when installing a new kernel. Did I do it wrong and if so how do you install a kernel without having to go back and reset your phone again. I reloaded my backup I did before installing the new kernel so I am back to square one but without the new kernel.

For installing a different kernel, you only need to wipe the Dalvik Cache (in advanced recovery) and the normal cache (on the main recovery screen). You should only lose your data if you do a full wipe (wipe data or factory reset, depending on where you do it), which isn't needed to flash a new kernel.

Your big mistake was using ROM Manager for flashing the kernel. Kernels are best flashed manually via recovery, after manually wiping cache and dalvik cache.
