hey every phone ive had i use screen protectors but always found took away from the look/feel...and seeing this phones gorilla glass is pretty tough, heres one of a few scratch tests https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKl33N2H8CM, and always passes without any scratches even with knifes...so if i have just a regular case, which protects it from falls, should i be confident the screen will stay scratch free and just leave it naked?

Try to use a diamond or sand and see what happens...

It would most likely scratch the screen

dont think i will have to worry about diamonds, unless u like to send me some ;)
sand on the other hand, i go to beach a lot so that could pose a problem..
did a quick search couldnt find any sand tests, but says on samsung site:

"The IP68 dust- and water-resistance Ingress Protection rating means your device is completely protected against dust, and it is water-resistant in up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. your device has also passed military specification (MIL-STD-810G) testing against a subset of 20 specific environmental conditions, including temperature, dust and sand, shock and vibration, low pressure, and high altitude. Device may not perform in all extreme conditions."

thoughts?
thanks

I've managed to scratch every screen I've ever owned...I think it's a lot easier than Corning would lead you to believe. However, I can't stand anything else but a tempered glass protector but those don't play nice with the S7 and I'm stuck with a film and they're horrible.

I have the one that came with the OtterBox. I'm a bit paranoid haha

If you feel like selling your soul. Walmarts brand Black web has one. I had it on my s6 and freaking loved it. Can't wait for the s7 ones to restock

The sand can scratch the screen. Even if you don't have a diamond ring, titanium ring would be able to scratch the screen.

As someone who hasn't visited a beach or near any hazardous materials since I purchased the phone I got a hairline scratch already. I suggest getting something.

Make it so.

It's like I said, Corning isn't going to come out and say "Gorilla Glass - a little harder than regular glass but still easy to scratch", they wouldn't sell anything if they did. In the end it's still glass and glass scratches, and it's not hard considering the amount of handling and use we give these things.

Gorilla glass is scratch resistant not scratch proof. The IP rating mentioned above has to do with dust/sand getting in to the internals of the phone. Has nothing to do with scratching the screen. Anything that is silicate based can scratch the screen. That is sand and sand is everywhere not just the beach. Many of us have some sand, even microscopic, in our pockets right now that can scratch gorilla glass. A screen protector is a necessity. Also the back is glass. That should be protected as well.
