this may be a dumb question but i just wanna make sure sense i don't have Verizon 4g in my area. will you be able to turn on and off 4g like you can on sprints 4g?

im pretty sure you will be able to but we wont know until someone gets a real hands on

I hope so, but worst case is it won't see the signal and just drop you down to 3G. But I wouldn't want it searching for a 4G signal and killing the battery.

Verizon would be suicidal to have 4G phones not backwards-compatible with 3G CDMA. And Verizon sure likes money so I am sure it will work on 3G. Think the same setup Sprint has on the Evo and Epic.

3G/4G on phones & MiFi going forward is nice and it allows users to truly have the coverage they need.

Right Verizon isn't going to have the millions of networking equipment they've deployed for 3G suddenly be useless while they ramp 4G up. It will have both, no questions. It's a different network technology so should have a separate, on/off radio for 4G.

Think of the 4g lte service like wifi if you have it and the radio is on all data will be routed through it allowing for voice and days at the same time. But if you don't have lte you can turn off the radio and it just sits their doing nothing.
edit
Though I do wish Verizon would have also upgraded their cdma network to Rev b which has higher speeds and allows for voice and data at the same time

Bizz stole the words right out of my mouth. It definitely should be backwards compatible with 3G, and even 1x when you're not in an area of 4G coverage. I imagine you will also have the option to turn off 4G much like you can do on Sprint 4G phones.

yeah thats true that would be dumb

Ok, here's a question I haven't seen posed yet. What if you have a 4g capable phone, but don't live in an area with 4g; will you still be required to pay for the 4g pricing ($50 - 5gb/ $80 - 10gb)? I haven't heard this mentioned anywhere yet. It'd be nice to keep the unlimited 3g data plan until 4g reaches an area I can use. I would imagine I'm not the only one wondering this.

A couple of people have asked this a few times and we're not exactly sure yet. As far as I know, Verizon hasn't laid out the complete pricing details for their 4G services on phones. We've also heard that the pricing options will differ from the $50/$80 options available currently with the Data sticks.

I honestly see them upping the price some but giving you more data. But who knows I'm just hoping we don't see a price increase or I may have second thoughts I don't really want to pay a 4g tax

Sprint doesn't let you opt-out so I doubt Verizon would either.

But Sprint has the unlimited everything plan... If Verizon offered the same, it would be different... Don't see it happening, but it would be nice.

So I went to the very last thread on the list (this one) and man, how things have changed since this haha. They were expecting to have the phone out in a few months. Well we're currently in end july and still no anouncements. Wonder what these guuys woulda thought if they new it'd really be this long haha dumb motorola :P

There arent gonna be new plans for 4G LTE on verizon...whatever data package you're on is good for whatever speed your phone is. In other words no up pricing for LTE
