Does the charging cable you use matter?

I just got my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 a week ago and usually will plug it in to my work computer via a usb cable during my work day. I noticed that it only charges about 10 percent per hour. I would expect to get at least 30 percent of charge in one hour. I am not using the cable that came with my phone. I am using a cable that came with my Mophie Juice Pack Case when I had an iPhone previously. I use the cable that came with the phone when plugging in at night and it charges much faster. Do I need to get a new cable (if so what type?), or is it that I am charging it with a computer so that isn't as effective?

The cable won't matter. It's the computer versus a dedicated charger. The computer will always charge much slower.

Probably about the same because most car adapter USB chargers are rated at a lesser rate than using a household outlet charger. They do make comparable car chargers that will match a household output but you will pay a little more and have to read the output charging amp rate.

You will need to look for a charger that is as close to 2 amp as you can get. Lesser amp charger will still work they just charge slower. Bestbuy sells just the 2amp charger for like 20 bux. Atleast thats what it was the other day locally.

It could possibly be the wire. I was having the same issue with my phone. Where I was using a third party wire, and my phone was charging extremely slow. I would go to bed at night with 15% battery, and was still not 100% almost 6 hours later. I bought a new wire, and bam, it charges incredibly fast. I did not change the part that connects to the wall, JUST the wire. So it could be your wire.

Yes, both matter. There has been lots of discussion on this. If you're not using the stock cable, then use a high quality cable like media bridge high speed usb cables. Look for my previous post on wire gauges and loss due to resistance (either wire composition or length, or both). And charging via computer does not provide an adequate amount of current for your note2's massive battery.

If you're plan on buying a wall or car charger, be certain it's for an android device.
Chargers designed to work with apple products use a different method of determining if the device can be charged with 2amps.
If they don't get the feedback they're looking for they default to the same amperage as a PC, and will not charge a NoteII or tablet

I can confirm that cable does matter. I have a cheap ebay bought cable for like $0.50 shipped. It charges the Note II and can transfer data without any problem. But when I tested the charging speed, the OEM Samsung cable would reach over 1100mA while the cheap cable would only go up to about 580mA with the same charger.

Interesting enough, my Kindle 1.8A charger with dedicated USB cable can reach 1300mA+ while the OEM Samsung cable and charger (2.xA) could only go to around 1180mA. I don't think I would go out and buy another cable. 1A is faster enough for me since I only charge my phone overnight.

I also can confirm that cables make a difference. I recently bought the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note III, it comes with a 2 amp charger and a usb 3 cable. I found it charged quite quickly with that supplied charger and cable. It will also accept a standard micro usb cable, and I already have several chargers around so decided to try them in hopes of saving the cost of buying another OEM one. Using an app that measures charge rate I determined that some of the chargers were really lame, even though they were rated for 1 or 2 amps. Further testing determined that most worked at their rating if I used the Samsung cable. Then other standard micro usb cables. All cables are NOT the same. Some worked just as well the original, others would not even produce 400 milliamps! I had some new ones from Amazon, their inexpensive Trip-lite add-ons. None of these 3 foot cables would charge at a fast rate, no matter what charger used.

Samsung support, of course, said you could only use the Samsung charger. While this is not true, the Note 3 is very sensitive about what it will accept, and either the charger or the cable can make a big difference.

For an auto cig. lighter you can find the plugs that have dual USB ports, one labeled iPhone and the other iPad. The iPad port will rapid charge your phone, if your cable is up to snuff. The cheapo car chargers you see in the drug stores and gas stations are normally not 2 amps, you have to check the labeling closely. Many of the support staff in Best Buy and Tiger Direct are not familiar with the Note 2, but if you tell them you need a car charger that will work for an iPad, they can find a generic that should work.
