Does the DInc not orient to the right????

If not is there a way to make it rotate right?

I find it hard to believe that a device could be designed to only auto orient to the side where the charging port is.

It only rotates to the one side. I have heard rumour that Froyo will allow both directions.

It's true, stock Dincs only rotate counter clockwise. All of the ROMs I have used allow the Dinc to rotate both directions.

Thanks bigslam...

I certainly hope that it's addressed in Froyo. I just bought a car that has a great place to put the DInc in the console only to find out the DInc won't rotate to the right and allow it to sit in the console and be charged at the same time in landscape orientation. I am highly disappointed at this point.

It seems so trivial, until you really want the feature :)

Seriously though, why would you lock orientation to only the side that has the power adapter input side?

Froyo does allow you to rotate both to the right and left.

The Sense home screen, however, as well as Contacts and the Sense Deskclock, remains only in portrait mode.

Dock.

I don't have a dock...

I have a car that has a good console that holds the DInc. The DInc seems to only allow it to be in one position, to the left, to be used properly. Which is ridiculous if you ask me. Really, why would you allow it to only be rotated in one direction?

since most power supplies come in from the bottom, left side (or bottom) power and counter clockwise rotation makes most sense.

I do not believe Eclair allows multi directional landscape.

Once the phone gets Froyo, you may need to change to a new Launcher.

I am not talking about other devices and their configurations. I am talking about the DInc.

It makes no sense to have the power/usb port to be on the side that the device rotates to. Period. This is my point. Putting the power port on the side that it rotates to makes no sense to me. It is a design deficiency IMO.

I love my DInc except for this discrepancy. Of course I didn't realize this until it became blatantly apparent. When trying to charge the device and use it in the orientation which it was "designed" to work and you can't, that sucks. Just sayin is all.

No offense, but try reading what I have told you. They put it there because it makes it easiest to make a dock. you lie it on the "left" in the dock and the phone charges.

Also, if you put it "on the side" of the rotation, it means your power cord faces down, which is where the lighter/power supply is.

Putting the power port on the bottom or left of an Android phone running 2.1 (which was the original OS) makes the most sense. I am sorry it doesn;t work well for you (YET) but for most applications putting the power port on bottom or left makes most sense.

When we get froyo, you should be able to rotate clockwise as well. You may have to get another launcher to use homescreens in that direction.

Anyway, this is not a design flaw it is a smart place to put the power port for this phone.

Hey, no offense to you either. Read what I said, I don't have a dock, as most users don't, I am pretty sure. I am talking about the average user that uses the device with the included peripherals.

Most people will not use a dock, but use the included charging cable and accessories in whatever configuration they can.

Also, as I have stated, if Froyo addresses this, all is well.

PS. To counter your point. Making a device specific dock would not be any more difficult to put the charging port on the left side than on the right(respectively, when the device is in landscape orientation.) They already have to make a totally different mold, etc... to fit the DInc.

When in landscape, the port on the right would be on the top. Since most docks are on the bottom, you are incorrect here. Do you understand how these docks usually work? you put phone in landscape into dock it has a landscape view and charges through the bottom (which is the LEFT edge). To use power on the "right" you would need to push up to charge and that would be a TON more difficult to design.

As for car mounts. When in landscape, your power port is now on bottom of phone FACING your expected power supply.

The power port was CORRECTLY put on the left side of this device. I still have no idea why this would be a problem unless you have a car mount that is not made for the Incredible.

Even in a dock the left side power port makes no sense. So you dock it and now you have the volume up and down switch unreachable. Without a dock you cannot do anything unless you buy a stand that holds the phone off desk or you can hold it if you want to have it powered. Then add that no custom docks are available ...

Your point is that left side volume controls make little sense.

Left side power port makes complete sense. Not just for a dock (which was expected when the phone was designed) but also for the car use in landscape.

So how about powering your phone when doing anything without a dock? I would guess that would be the vast majority of users even if there were a dock. And I guess all the phones out there with power connectors on the bottom, you know, the complete design failures called Blackberry and Apple, were badly designed and unusable.

Froyo, at least the leaked version makes it worse. **** was always rotating on me when when I didn't want it to. What makes it worse is it's either on or off, no settings. I prefered how it was in 2.1. Launcher Pro fixed it where at least it wasn't rotating on my home screen anymore.

Funny how I am talking about ANDROID phones and you go to phones running different OS. (NOTE: Blackberry has power port on left in Storm2, so I am not sure your point about BB.). Also iPhone docks are not made for landscape.

Motorola, HTC, and LG all put the power port on the left for ANDROID devices. I guess you and your friend are much smarter than they are.
