I'm adding a line for the Nexus, my friend said I can have his EnV 3, does it require data?

It's my my understanding that phone requires a messaging phone data plan (75MB for $10) but I could be wrong. I know the enV Touch did when i had it.

I think if it has 3G you have to get a $9.99 data plan.
