Does the EVO really have 512MB of ram?

Is it some quirk that doesn't allow Android to recognize all of the ram? Using Quick System Info it lists total Memory at 415.

The system uses some of it, especially sense, that's why.

Yuuup on that one...

I noticed about 60-75% of the RAM is being used, even if you're not even doing anything active on a Sense based ROM.

i love the EVO but i think the one area they scrimped on was internal RAM. i know every penny counts - but - memory is cheap - especially when buying in the volumes HTC does. and given the RAM in the Incredible and other phones - would it have killed them to give us 1GB+ in the EVO???

That would be ROM, not RAM. The Evo has 1 GB of ROM but it is partitioned off and part of it is devoted to the OS. I think the default user accessible amount is something like 440 MB.
