So, even before i buy the phone, one of the highlights everyone make is:

"You can double-chop to turn the flash on or off. But if you activate the flashlight this way and set the phone face-down, the flashlight will almost immediately turn itself off."

Sounds awesome, so i tried it, double-chop works fine, but the flashlight dont turn itsel off when i put the phone face-down, and i waited a long time hoping the sensors have a delay, i tested in many surfaces and all the same.

It doens't seems to have a setting about this as the phone do it automatically..

So, that's it, i will have to accept it will never work on my phone?

PS. I already factory reset the phone after the update to MM, and a few days later.

Re: About the flashlight and double-chop

I think that to turn it off you have to double chop again I had never heard that if you put it face down it turns off.

Re: About the flashlight and double-chop

Just tried it. Setting phone down doesn't turn off flashlight for me either.

Re: About the flashlight and double-chop

I don't remember if it was changed in marshmallow or an earlier app update, however, your are correct, it has been changed.

Flashlight with face down works for me.

Face down worked before 6.0 but did not work for me now

I've got 6.0 and the flashlight remains on when the phone is face down.

I'm sure if you were to read other comments in the thread you could derive the context in which I use the word "works"

Yes, I read the other comments in the thread. Some people may think the flashlight is supposed to stay on when put face down, so they say it works. When in actuality, it is supposed to shut itself off when put face down, which a lot of people are saying it doesn't anymore after MM, which means it doesn't work. Just trying to clarify...a simple answer would be sufficient to help people, which is what this forum is for.

For a flashlight to be "working" it would be on. If it were to not be "working" it would be off. My initial comment was simple enough.
I prefer the light stay on when I set the phone face down. Nice and easy way to light an entire room, hands free, without having to lean it against something awkwardly.

First thread warning. Please keep it civil.

Discussion seems civil to me so far. I do agree with Jheebs that there is ambiguity in the use of the word "works" in this thread. Compare:

Flashlight with face down works for me.
(seems to be saying that the flashlight stays on when face down ("works" when on).

with

Face down worked before 6.0 but did not work for me now
Seems to be saying that the flashlight used to turn off when face down before 6.0, but now it stays on (does NOT "work" when on).

With these apparently different usages of "work," Jheebs' polite request for clarification seemed reasonable to me.

Thread title: Does the flashlight now work with the phone face down?

Answer: Yes, the flashlight now works with the phone face down.

If I used the double chop when I first got the phone, the flashlight would turn off when something came in close proximity to the front, for example putting the phone in my pocket. Then I noticed one day it just stopped working. This was before Marshmallow. It stopped turning off on Lollipop and I was hoping it was just a glitch that would be fixed with Marshmallow. I even factory reset my phone after updating to Marshmallow and it still doesn't turn off.

Really aggravating because it's very convenient to be able to just put the phone in your pocket after using it and it turn off automatically. I've even caught it activating in my pocket a couple of times before, but it won't turn off now if that happens.

And if you needed to light up a room or something by putting it face down, you could always activate the flashlight from quick settings and it would stay on. IMO, the double chop gesture should disable the flashlight when the front of the phone is pressed against something.

I like being able to do the Chop gesture and place the phone face down to (minimally) light up a room. It is a welcome change.

Re: About the flashlight and double-chop

you have to turn "easy mute" off... that setting is under advanced features... i just figured that out lol
