Remember that HDR doesn't make photos sharper (as in focus). It helps when you're taking a shot with high dynamic contrast/color range, like a scene where there's lots of bright colors and light but also lots of shadows. HDR will take at least 2 shots of differing exposure, then combine the shots to reduce shadows but still retain the colors from the bright areas.
