Regardless of if this phone is from one of the founders of Android, it doesn't guarantee timely updates. However, so far the updates have been on time, way better than other phones like Samsung and LG. And since Essential doesn't customize their Android variant, we should expect this trend to continue especially with project treble from Android Oreo onwards.I get the impression that because it's a project by one of the Android founders, that it should receive regular and timely patches and updates...

You need to stick another carrier Sim and reboot. I just received the Sprint one couple days ago via the flex lease promo. Unfortunately mine came locked to Sprint out of the box, even delivered 5o my house. Put my TMobile sim before even booting up the phone, and still locked. Anywho, after setting the phone up, I put the TMobile sim card in, and rebooted. The latest software update popped up, with the December security updates. Downloaded via WiFi and installed it, popped the Sprint sim back in.I know it's Sprint! Tried removing sim and nothing. Probably gonna pay phone off this week and get it unlocked and leave their horrible service
