Here is the Speed Test (I always use this server so the results are consistent):

Here is the screen shot of the signal strength (-83 dBM):

Is that an example of consistent results or a one-time test? Is the server you're pinging the one actually closest to you?

There isnt really a correlation between signal strength and speed...

you can have the strongest signal possible, but if everyone else is pulling data from the same tower at that moment, then your speed will always be slow....

This.

I'd wait a while and do the speed test over increments of say 15min or 30min.

No, server is not the one closest. The one closest to me gets about the same speeds, but the reason I use this one is because this is the one that the app sends me to automatically. So since that is the one I have always been sent to by the app, I have not changed it except to check to see if I could get any faster speeds from a closer server and I couldn't.

I get similar speeds in the middle of the night and we just got 4G where I live so I doubt many people were buying 4G phones before we had 4G especially since the average age of the person where I live is probably 75 yo.

So you get 5 down and 1 up with 4G. What do you get with 3G?

dBm iis 3g, ASU is the 4g.

How the heck to you have 4g connection with only 4 asu?

Re: Does This Speed Test Result Look Right for a -83 dBM 4G Signa

Nope. The nexus shows dbm for 4g.

It shows both regardless of how you are connected.

ASU is the 4g meter. dbm is the 3g meter.

No. That is not correct. It will show the dbm and asu of the fastest network you're connected to.

THe OP's issue is cell capacity in his/her area, not the signal level. I would contact vzw and tell them about the capacity problem. They advertise 5-12mbps down and 2-5 up. You're seeing less than that and have a valid case.

I'd say no. I'm getting roughly about the same up and down at 100 dbm.

Have you tried speakeasy.net/speedtest from the browser? I've noticed slower speedtest.net speeds since I installed 4.0.4. Its a bug in how the app/os talks (its happened in the past). Speakeasy.net has always given more consistant results.

These were taken in the same day in the same area. Different times, but only a couple of hours.
Speedtest.net (which blows)

Gnex Girl I ping off of that same server and get crappy speeds as well. Including higher uploads than downloads. I believe it is the server. I went to Nashville a few weeks ago and was getting better speeds.
