does using a live wallpaper really kill the battery faster?

if so, how many percet are we talking about? If it's only
10 percent... I guess I can just ignore it, right? :)

I prefer live wallpapers, some with high animation can affect battery life but those usually have settings to minimize the cpu usage.
I don't concern myself with what takes more power because I am usually in a position to charge it.

the live wallpaper doesn't really use up CPU power when the screen is off,
or does it? I always assumed that it only require the extra CPU power
when I'm actually seeing it live with the screen on....?

More work = more required power....

I don't know if the GN is any better but with past devices including my Xoom I could feel/see a mild performance hit when using a live wallpaper.

It probably uses the same amount of power when the screen is off because the app is still running. The screen itself is what takes up the most cpu when the device is on.

Normal usage should peg you at like 2%. You can always check your battery stats to see for certain.

Run a comparison of what is using the battery. Do it for a day with the live wallpaper and then again with regular wallpaper.

Any chance that the 4.0.3 update fixes the lag between going from the home screen and app drawer and vice versa while using a live wallpaper? If so, that will have me going back to live wallpapers.

I don't experience any lag with my phone when transitioning between home screen and app drawer.

Which live wall papers are you using and which do you like the best?( this is for anyone who would like to answer)

When using a live wallpaper, I usually use Phase Beam, as that one does not cause any lag. I really like Bubbles and Holo Spiral, but they cause lag -- Bubbles being worse than Holo Spiral.

If it is optimized well, and you aren't poking it often, it should be way less than 10%. Love the Japan/Chinese sakura stuff.

Ive noticed the Phase Beam live wallpaper to be the smoothest so far. And is the first time Im using a live wallpaper on an Android Device, consistantly. And Ive owned many folks.

+1 on phase beam. Just wish I could change the colors.

I must say, coming from the og Droid, I was anxious to have this beast fly with live wallpapers on. Phase beam seems to be the only one I've seen that doesn't lag screen transitions.
I would love to hear some recommendations for a completely lag free lwp on an unrooted, stock nexus.

Will you use more energy by doing jumping jacks than if you were just standing in place...??

:)

Think it depends also on what the live wallpaper is monitoring. Some will be accessing data for geolocation, weather, time of day etc etc so that they can reflect these stats in the image (eg rain/night etc). These I've found REALLY drain reguardless of screen on/off. THat said I've not used them since my original Asus TF101 tablet so things may have improved.
