Sometimes when I'm at work I'll use the pre charger to charge my evo and I was wondering if it can damage the usb charging port?

I've been using my old Pre charger since June with no problems.

Micro usb is micro usb is micro usb, its nice because its a 1A charger (same as stock HTC on btw). The palm branded car charger is tops in that dept too, one of the few 1A car chargers you will find out there. Its the only one I could find that would power the touchstone in the car.

Yes it will damage it because my brother n daughter both had the same problem, they used the pre charger not the same pre charges but they both had to replace the phone cause their usb port messed up

They are the same port, one will not damage the other. microUSB chargers (the ports specifically) are designed to be more rugged than the other usb connections.

Flip I would suspect that something else happened that wasn't related to it being the Pre charger specifically. I used one up to 2 weeks ago. I sold the Pre so I had to give up the charger.

Defect of the EVO, not caused by the charger. MicroUSB ports are standardized, they work universally. The amperage is identical. There's literally no difference except one is named Palm and the other is named HTC.

I use two different Pre chargers, one at home and one at work since June. No problems at all.

Probably not due to them using another charger. Micro USB is an industry standard, the physical connector is speced out the same, the voltage is the same, only difference is power output, anywhere from 500mAh to 1Ah.

Also some people have hinted at a physical build difference between EVOs so maybe they got a batch that had a weak micro usb port.

I have yet to use the Stock HTC EVO charger, i got my EVO on launch day and its still going strong.
I use the charger that came with my Treo Pro at home, Motorola chargers at work, and an aftermarket car charger in my truck.

I have been using my bb charger to charge my Epic and even use my car's usb port to charge also.. They are all made the same on purpose now..

Micro-USB = Micro-USB = Micro-USB

I have 2 Micro-USB cables in the living room, 2 in the bedroom, 1 in the home office, and 1 at my desk, 1 in my car, 1 in my wife's car. My wife and I see no difference switching between any of those cables.

I just bought a bunch of micro-usb cables online and stuck them everywhere.

There may be a slight difference. Back when I had my pre, I had to cut open aftermarket microusb cables and jump 2 pins with solder to get them to work properly with the pre...do a search on precentral for more info.
