Got a google chromecast with google tv and love it, best streaming device ever! Until I went to hook up my surround sound. I have an older receiver that does just Dolby Digital, not Atmos, and have an optical (tos link) cable running from my tv output to my recieiver input. Can get Stereo and Dolby Prologic to work, but not Dolby Digital. After some research, it seems the older Dolby Digital 5.1 won't work with the new google chromecast with google tv. This is insane as google is like the best tech company I know. Can someone explain this to me?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Android Central! What TV do you have? Does it support Dolby audio pass through? https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/inputs/5-1-surround-audio-passthrough

The specs for the Chromecast with Google TV state that it supports Dolby audio pass through: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/3046409?hl=en#zippy=,chromecast-with-google-tv. You said you're using a TOS cable for audio, which is fairly old tech -- is this because the TV doesn't have HDMI, or because your AV receiver doesn't have HDMI?
