Don't get Whatsapp notifications on Android Nougat on Galaxy S7

I had used the battery saver few times and switched off the same as well. But post that, I do not get any notifications from Whatsapp. Only when I open the app, new messages can be seen. But this is not the case with other apps. Also, the settings/ permissions are the same for Whatsapp as for the other apps.

I had this too. Firstly make sure WhatsApp is not included in battery optimisation. Go to settings/device maintenance/ battery then scroll down to unmonitored apps and make sure WhatsApp is included as an unmonitored app. Scroll down to Add Apps to add it if not. I also went to WhatsApp settings and disabled notifications and then re-enabled them. I get notifications now.

I am getting the same, and checked the settings you mention. I get a vibrate and a sound, but the screen does not light up. If I press the home button, I can see a notification on my lock screen, and also, if my phone is unlocked, the notification appears in the heading ... but, nothing if screen is off

Was an issue handling photos via web browser, not mobile client. Was dealt with on server level.
Perhaps they changed and are affecting mobile app though.
