Don't put your case on upside-down! (unless you want a new OS)

I had a scary moment. I had to remove my (minimal) case. When I put it back on, I put it on upside-down (camera cutout on bottom) by accident. This apparently caused the volume keys and the power/bixby button to get pressed simultaneously. Next thing I see on the phone is a warning about downloading a different OS. I then realized the case was on upside-down and removed the case. While removing it, a bunch of bar-codes filled the phone screen for a few seconds, and then a message about "Downloading - to cancel, shut the phone off". But, I couldn't shut it off (I have the Bixby button set to power-down on a long-hold). After pressing buttons feverishly for a few seconds, the phone finally re-booted, and it doesn't appear anything has changed.

I have researched it, and apparently you can hold the power key, volume up and volume down simultaneously to change the OS. I believe the OS needs to be on the SD card, but apparently you can download it as well.

You can't change the OS by using those buttons and the only time you can use the SD card is to update the software in recovery , the OS won't run on a SD card

You just accidentally put the phone into download mode, this would be used if you are loading an updated or custom ROM using Odin

Would have freaked me out completely
That's why people should learn about their phones, and how they work. If you see it, you can just restart the phone - nothing happens unless you start downloading a ROM to the phone. (And if you have anything on the phone that you don't want to lose - pictures, videos, etc., nowis the time to back them up - at least to Google, and to a laptop or PC if you have one. If you drop the phone and someone drives over it, they can pay for a new phone - but not the data that was on it.)

Happened to me yesterday, nothing happens just restart the device and boom back to normal

Awhile back I was in the Verizon store to compare my Note 8 size to the Note 10 and 10+ for future purchase consideration. I was distracted talking to the sales girl and put my case on upside down as well. When I went to take it off and switch it back, it hit the right combination of buttons to do a factory reset before I could stop it. I was so mad at myself

Happened to me this weekend. I had remembered reading about here, so I knew to turn it off and restart. But it did freak me out a little at first.
