Don't upgrade that EVO do a Factory Restore

I was in Best Buy the other day just browsing at phones when the sales person asked if I needed help with anything. I showed her my EVO and she asked if she could check my account. Found out I was eligible for an upgrade. I could switch to a Nexus 4G phone for $0

I have had a few issues with my EVO since the 2.3 upgrade so I decided to do some research on the Nexus and decided to go ahead. In order to trade in my EVO I backed everything up and did a Factory Restore. I was going to wait to format the SD card until I actually had the Nexus in my hand.

Well I have to say, my EVO isn't going anywhere. That Factory Restore was like cleaning out the closet. Phone seems fresh, new and speedy. Putting my apps back and getting the phone configured only took about 30 minutes.

I just finished reconfiguring a replacement EVO (old one had the old dead USB charging port issue). While reloading apps and placing the shortcuts back on the screens I thought, gee, this phone seems more responsive and quicker than my old one... I guess a factory restore is akin to doing a clean Windows reinstall on a PC.

Only downside is you lose your app data. I haven't found a sure fire way of backing that up successfully without root. Anyone know of one?

You doods are wild. I'm going to do a factory reset on my blackberry 9650. It will instantly make it better than my EVO 3D. It might even give it 4G.

I had the nexus s for one day, absolutely hated how cheap feeling samsung makes their phones. Took it back and picked up the evo 4g. Ill never own anything but HTC.

After I complete a factory reset will the market have all my apps that I ever downloaded there to reinstall, even paid apps?

From my experience it tends to be the paid apps that display in the my apps section of the market after factory reset.

Paid apps will be there. If you log on to the market via desktop it will show all of them (paid and free) and you can tell it to download straight from there

Download App Brain from the marketplace sync it with your Google account, name your App list on AppBrain, make a copy of all your folders on your PC then factory reset your Evo. Once your done reinstall AppBrain log in with your Google account and sync with your phone. Easy as pie, Ive done this every time my Evo gets slow..

one thing to consider is a paid app will NO LONGER BE THERE in the market if it's been removed by Google. I found this out the hard way after I had paid for an app, thankfully the dev of FullHDMI posted the download link in another thread here on this forum so I was able to get it on my phone again. Needless to say, Google pissed me off with that move! /grrr

yeah i miss Real Signals as well. Going from my EVO 4G to EPIC to 3D it was one of those apps i used rarely but when i needed the app it sure was handy to have.

For the record, a hard reset after any major update is recomended. Especially if the device becomes slower then normal. I am talking about HTC / Sprint major updates. Like when we went from 2.1 to 2.2 then 2.2 to 2.3..

I use AppBrain too and it works great. I've done about 4 factory resets now and had my phone replaced once... every time I had all my apps back in less than an half hour of downloading.

Yeah I'm a little pissed about this too because I purchased the full version of FullHDMI. Everyone should be refunded their money if a paid app gets removed. It's BS that you don't!!

I wish.....you're lucky. Five re-sets and a hundred other things that were suggested and two weeks later....with virtually no apps/shortcuts/widgits on my desk top or using my camera or GPS, and an EM to HTC....I've been stable for 2 days....KNOCK ON WOOD. Hope that HTC releases a fix soon. A consolation thread about the problem on Sprint was dated 6/23, so wonder how long HTC will take to release a fix.

Enjoy your phone...really glad it worked for you. No more bragging to my friends since the update that's for sure. I'm never recommending a phone to anyone again .:'(
