I just discovered this by accident and it could have resulted in an expensive call. Does anyone know how to disable this?

without knowing the headphone you should look at the manual. thats diffidently a feature of the headphone

can someone else test this, I am using 'made for iPhone' headphones but the middle button is common to iOS and Android.

Install "Headset Button Controller" by Christoph Kober. It has a fix specifically for this issue with the HTC. This was driving me nuts as well and this app fixed it. By default the fix is turned on in the app settings.

No this is a feture that natively built into HTC.

I used "Jays Headset Control to disable this and to allow me to skip tracks with a double tap of the center button.

My God, I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed this. What a weird feature.

Do either of those apps get the volume buttons to work? I'm also using a "made for iPhone" set of headphones.

"* Headset Button Controller cannot support the separate volume control buttons on the iPhone headset - this is a limitation of the Android framework."

just tried both apps - the Jays app didn't work with my (V-Moda) but 'Headset Button Controller' (free version) worked straight off the bat.

As stated above you will need headphones made for Android to control volume, the good news is Jays are coming out with Android earphones soon:

a-JAYS Five - Jays
(click the android link)

Hold the phone!

On this page it states:

JAYS Headset Control for Android - Jays

* Volume control only available on v2.2 ? 4.0.4 due to Android Jelly Bean limitations.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

sorry, it only applies to their app, I thought they meant the new earphones.
