Double text messages notifications

I am having the most irritating problem with the text messaging notifications. I have turned off the notifications on the stock android message app. I downloaded go sms pro to use instead. I am getting two notifications for text message. I have go sms notifications turned on, and all other notifications turned off. I have had an android phone since the original g1 came out and I have always done it the same way. Some one please tell me what the hellavits is going on with this double notification.

In Advanced Settings, go into Notification Settings.
At the top, it will say Enable Notifications.
If not, check this box.

Are you referring to the advanced settings in go sms? I have the enable notifications checked in go, and I unselected the enable tab in the stock messenger.

I don't have Google voice set up on my galaxy nexus. And when I turn off notification in go and turn on the message app notification I only get one notification instead of two. I thought it may have been go sms, but I installed handcent and chomp sms...Same multiple notifications.
