Downloaded files no longer go into gallery.

So I've had the same problem with both google play music and the gallery app where if I download a song/image from anywhere like chrome, it no longer goes to google music or gallery. Prior to both of these I tried to open a file in the alternative app (samsung music or photos). And now my download album in gallery is entirely gone. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! Use a file manager app like ES File Explorer to look at the Downloads folder. Make sure there isn't a file called ".nomedia" there, which would cause the system to ignore that folder when looking for media files.

I think if you wait long enough, the Media Scanner will rescan the system and find the files. I would guess a reboot would do the same thing, so go ahead and try it. The other thing to try is to go to Settings>Apps>All, select Gallery, and Clear Cache/Clear Data, then Force Stop. When you open it again, the Media Scanner should activate and rescan your folders for media files.
