Downloaded pictures disappearing from my S4

I will save pictures from my gmail (app) and they will appear in my downloads folder for a couple of days. Then out of nowhere they disappear and are nowhere to be found. Has anyone else had this happen? Ne1 know the problem/solution?

Did you delete the emails they were attached to?

I did. But that in itself did not make them disappear. After a while the files simply vanished. The emails are still in my trash...

I have noticed this behavior as well. Take one of the emails out of the trash, open it and re-save the image. Then leave the email in your inbox for a few days and see if the photo remains in the downloaded folder.
