Downloads folder contents/Home Screen Shortcuts

I uploaded a PDF file to the Downloads subdirectory. However, on the APPS page, where the downloads shortcut can be found, when I click it, it says the downloads subdirectory is empty. (Using a file manager, I see the file is really there.)

How can I click the downloads icon on the APPS page and see what is in the directory?

(What is the right name of this folder... I had downloads and Download as folders, and I renamed it to just Downloads? Is that the right name linked to the shortcut on the APPS screen?)

What I really want to do is place a shortcut on the home screen to that PDF file. Any way to do that?

Thanks,

Edgar

I had the same problem and couldn't find a workaround. It's like the tab has a mind of its own and you will put file a in directory b or it will not work. I'm glad computers aren't like that.

Download ES File Explorer from the market.
Press and hold the file or folder you would like to add to the desktop.
The first time you do this, its going to ask you to download the bookmark manager from the market. After downloading it, you will not be prompt for it again.
Now when you press and hold a file or folder, a shortcut will be added to the desktop.
I have quite a few file management apps. ES File Explorer is the best in my opinion.

CDF3...

You are brilliant. Worked like a charm. But I am still curious, why do things in the download folder NOT show up when the clicking the "downloads" shortcut on the APPS page?

Thanks so much.

The one in the app page is basically a download history of things you've downloaded. Same concept of download history for browsers on a PC.
It's not a shortcut to the folder itself.

Interestingly, they DID appear last week, because that was the way I originally accessed them. (I could see the list of files from the past 7 days, and then access them. But now, transferring files via the USB into that same directory, just as I did last week, doesn't show anything (except when I use a file explorer app).

It should show files you've downloaded OTA. I don't think it will detect files you've added via USB transfer.
