downloads in gallery

if I download a picture or video from web or Facebook, it downloads but won't appear in my 'gallery' unless I reboot the phone. This is obviously on reboot rescanning what I have and so it appears. Anyone know how to force it to scan without rebooting. I can't see an option within gallery app itself. Sometimes if I mess around in my files explorer I can get it to appear eventually.

You can try a cache clear for the gallery app in Settings>application manager.

Do you have an SD card or is all of your content in the internal memory?

I have an sd card mounted but I find these files in sdcard0/download
