That's because lithium batteries don't suffer from the so-called "memory effect".

The act of letting it drain to 0% and then fully charging it again applies to nickel-based batteries but it's actually terrible for a lithium-based one.

Not a third direction actually. There are valid statements on both sides but mixed with a lot of opinion or stuff carried over from other tech.
Proper battery charging and discharging has been debated here there and everywhere and I choose not to add to the argument.
I think people should just enjoy their phones, avoid the obvious bad habits and do what works for them.

Wow, no body whipped out the link to battery University? A staple of battery threads. I'd never let mine drop to zero on purpose but have accidently on occasion. The pixel battery life is good enough for a once a day charge , in my case that works for me. I do not leave it plugged in beyond that as I see no point to leaving it in when it's fully charged. I drop 7% overnite and don't see the logic in constantly keeping it topped off throughout the nite.

Battery service life is an important topic to me so I'll follow these "dumb" threads. I guess we're not all as smart as you.

What's dumb about wanting to prolong the life of a sealed battery that is inconvenient to replace? For replaceable batteries, it's almost a non-issue because it's cheap and easy to replace. Not so with most phones nowadays.

I don't care what anyone else says, but I know for a fact...
When I first got my Pixel 2 it was going from 100% to 94% in the blink of an eye. Yet it was still getting good screen on time. But I decided to charge the phone to 100% and let it completely drain twice, and the battery has been dissipating at an even pace ever since. And still getting good screen on time...

This. It's only a benefit imo to do so.
