Driver issue

I'm on my second N7. The first one I unlocked and rooted using the one click toolkit (boo I know), and it worked out fine. This time around, I'm having issues with the drivers. I've tried everything, but it seems like the automatic Windows issued ADB doesn't function right, and every time I uninstall that driver, the device disappears so I can't manually add drivers. It won't even let me update the drivers, as it says something along the lines of "Windows believes these drivers are up to date".

At this point, I don't even want to root. I just want the appropriate drivers so my tablet will appear as "Nexus 7" and I can access the storage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Uninstall the drivers completely from device management.. then install the universal naked driver using the method described by Zero Neck in his unlocking thread. Literally took me about 5 seconds on my windows system.

Every time I uninstall it either automatically installs the default ADB again, or the device is no longer in the device management list at all.

A factory reset seemed to do the trick. It now appears as "Nexus 7" except when I go into the bootloader, where in reinstalls the default ADB driver. Looks like no root for me for the time being.
