droid 1 no sound at start up or shut down it just vibrates

2.2, if I'm remembering right, is the first version that officially has startup and shutdown sounds available. How were you acheving it before? Were you using a the notification for mounting the SD card?

Also, if you don't have an app/widget that lets you individually control alarm, notfication, media, ringtone and system volumes, do so. Maybe you have one turned down and the sounds are there. I like the free Audio Manager widget.

The Droid used to use the default ringtone when initializing the SD card at startup (when I first got my Droid it used the "DROID!" ringtone) and when shutting down the phone. Those sounds became silent by default with the 2.2 update.

The startup shutdown sounds were alerts for the mounting/unmounting of the sd card. 2.2 removed the options for alerts regarding the mounting of sd cards. That's why it also no longer does it when you mount to a computer.
