DROID 2.1 Update thread.

After updating 2.1....My droid is so HOT after using a while, new galery is so slow, when using live wallpaper the whole menu is laggyyy.... so sad.....

give it some time, the OS has to settle a little, i would also try to reboot the device.

personally i wiped to like out of box fresh, and then loaded, and its running great!

The gallery is slow but the new features like voice to text, pinch zoom, etc. are amazing. Plus, helix with 7 screens is great!

Thanks!!!!

To all that helped me with advice on how to get this thing updated a big thank you.. I just downloaded it using Internet Explorer and the first time was a charm..

Again, thanks and i am so glad I have a Droid now...

Did a fresh restore to get back to stock from DroidMod and ran the update, everything runs really smooth I like the droid style Neural Network live wallpaper. So far battery life seems fine although I only update about 3 hours ago so the true test will be how the rest of the day goes.

The only time I get lag is when using Swype on a widget on the homescreen with a live wallpaper up.

Other than that, my battery life is unaffected, and everything is pretty slick. In fact everything seems smoother and more responsive. I've been a multitasking, texting, facebooking, gaming, RSS reading, movie watching, fool today too.

Everything seems better.

did the update.zip.no problems so far. gonna take a lunch break now and put it through some testing. see you all after lunch.

I actually feel like my phone is running smoother after the 2.1 update, even with a live wallpaper up. Also, the first time the new gallery loaded it was slow, but its extremely fast for me now.

OK, this is not good. Battery has gone from 80% to 30% in three hours and I've made no calls, no video, or surfing. Just checked email a few times. According to the Battery Use utility, it's almost all "Display". I'm disabling Live Wallpaper to see if that's it.

There's something seriously amiss there, I have been doing what I consider "heavy use" since about 6:30am MST and I just now started charging it, since I want to use it this afternoon without worrying about its charge level. It just dropped to %40....

While I can't make any serious claims to battery life, because I usually keep it plugged into my PC at work, I haven't had it plugged in much this morning, and at lunch I was at 70%, which I would say is an improvement to where it used to drop down to

Live Wallpapers are a serious drain to the battery, those eat up a lot of resources. They will do the same thing on laptops, they look very nice but will hog resources and in turn suck the battery dry. This feature was probably the one thing I had no interest in since I knew it would just kill the battery life.

On another note, speech to text is awesome! The new gallery is pretty nice too after it does its initial indexing of all your photos.

Right, seems crazy. I'll do a reboot, full charge, and run it as I normally do. No Live Wallpaper. If things are back to normal, I'll try the wallpaper again. Truly, I don't care about Live Wallpaper anyway.

Anyone else notice that the music app is different? No more start screen with the big green buttons. Just goes straight to the library view where you can sort by album, artist, song, playlist. No big deal, but I sorta liked the original music launch screen......

I am not finding the option to sync my Picasa albums with the new gallery app. I saw someone else had this issue and the fix the person suggested didn't work. I don't have an option under settings/accounts & sync

You have to go one step further touch the gmail account sync and it should be in the next screen.

After doing the manual update, I've noticed two "new apps" in the app management list.

A 0-byte "com.android.gallery", which I uninstalled w/o affecting the new fancy pants gallery app.

A 16.00 KB "com.android.inputmethod.latin" (12KB App, 4KB Data). This I haven't uninstalled, for fear of losing my on screen keyboard.

Does anyone else have these, or know if it's safe to uninstall the inputmethod one, at least?

UPDATE: uninstalling those doesn't seem to have hurt anything. no loss of on screen keyboard or anything.
