DROID 2.1 Update thread.

Facebook put out an update today unrelated to 2.1, check the Market. Not sure if it fixed anything but it is released.

1.1.4 consists of minor fixes and adds QVGA support.

Hell of an update at 1.30mb tho

Looks much nicer on the Droid now. Higher res

Moving along.

Yup, 9,000 at 11:59pm. That'd be 8:59pm for you crazy calis.

Someone tried it, lost the update. It didn't work.

People will figure something out or it'll leak eventually.

i thought the guy lost 2.1 when trying to recover it after he already updated. before you update, it should just be like any other file sitting on your SD.

According to my "very precise" calculation, about 1 out of every 150 Droids should get the update tonight. About 1 out of 400 droids will receive the update while there owner is sleeping and are therefor unable to help the rest of us. About 1 out of 900 people we be part of an android forum and and receive the update. About 1/1337 droid owners will receive the update and be able to post there update.zip on an android forum.

I am going to go off on a tangent and say even if I did get the update tonight. (Doubt I will) I probably couldn't deliver the zip. Too risky for my liking. Feel free to rep me down for that...

No, it will not include Flash.

We will not see it for a long time. Adobe are dragging their feet.

There are some interesting problems with putting flash on a phone. The more I read, the less it bothers me that it's not on a phone.

Uh oh, someone is sounding like a certain CEO :P

But at-least WITH 2.1 we CAN run Flash when it hits (its 2.1+ only)

I think Adobe might be more concerned with CS5 (April 12) than Flash on phones right now, tbh. I for one will deliver the update if I get it. I owe this place a lot. :)

what kinds of problems are those??

A pretty big problem is how flash treats navigation vs selection. If you think of many flash sites and how they operate, mousing over certain features initiates one action, while clicking on the object does a separate action. The problem is, how do you seamlessly distinguish between the two on flash site using a touch interface? How do you get action A in the scroll over while getting action B on the click when you only have what is essentially a giant on/off switch.

In one sense, as much as I didn't care for my Storm, it looks like an ideal interface for mobile flash, with the sure press screen allowing for the ability to cleanly separate the two actions and give a usable interface.
