DROID 2.1 Update thread.

Has anyone else noticed that with the new 2.1 3D gallery pictures are not as clear when you zoom in. I also have B&B gallery and the same pictures look a lot better and clear when I zoom in using B&B gallery than the new 3D gallery

Are you looking at picasa albums?
It takes forever for those galleries to load the full quality images. It really bugs me.

its the new 3D gallery that came with the 2.1 update the effects are cool but when looking at the pictures and zooming in its not as clear as it used to be or with other gallerys

I'm loving the new features in 2.1. And my batt life seems to have improved as well. Not sure if something was up before though. The batt life was terrible for me before but now its great. I love android.

has anyone noticed a change in the notifcation LED with 2.1? mine seems to be in a different location now.

Well...mine didn't move but there is an unpleasant change. If I get a notification and the screen is not off, the notification LED does not light up. I find it annoying if I am in a program that hides the notification bar, I'm not sure exactly what I am being notified of (A few programs have the same tone for alerts).

After having issues reverting from rooting (finally got everything back to 2.0.1 using DMUpdater/Rom Manager), I tried to upgrade manually.
I did everything that was explained on the home page vid to the letter, and for some reason 2.1 wouldn't take (wtf?).
So now I'll just wait it out for the ota.:(

Another change that I noticed is when you put the phone on the desktop cradle, the icons have changed. The Home button used to be in the upper right hand corner, now the light toggle is there. The Home button now resides in the lower right corner and is much larger. Minor improvement to some, but for someone like me that keeps their phone on the cradle most of the day in the office, it's great.

Tried that and it wasn't there. Just contacts, gmail, and calendar.

For those who haven't read my initial post, I am unable to figure out how to view my picasa web albums in the new gallery. I have looked in settings/accounts & Sync/my google account and see no setting for syncing picasa.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I figured out a fix to my problem. I think the problem happens to people who created picasa accounts after they had already gotten their Droid.

In order to get access to Picasa web albums I had to restore my phone to defaults. Before I did that I used a backup program to backup all my settings, contacts, apps, and messages. I then restored to defaults, went through the process of setting the phone up and restoring my old information. Now I have access to my albums.

I know this isn't the easiest solution and it took some time to get everything back to the way I had it before the reset, but it fixed my problem and seems to have sped my phone up a bit.

Hope that helps anyone having the same problem as me.

I manually installed 2.1 last night and managed to do it all right on the phone (using Astro, as many have already mentioned). Coming from the Blackberry world, updating Android was a much more painless process... and much quicker, too.

So far, I think my favorite change is the Gallery. I've been playing around with Android/Picasa integration (which is really only a bookmark to my Picasa account online and the Gallery's "Share" function in Android 2.0.1) and now I can do away with my Picasa Web bookmark link since the new Gallery shows all of my Picasa albums already. The extra eye candy in the Gallery is nice, too. I especially like how the menus expand as little animated dialog balloons. Now, if I were just able to move images between Picasa folders, I think the Android/Picasa integration would be complete.

I've fiddled with the speech-to-text feature and am pretty impressed with its speed and accuracy. It was even working well with me talking quietly and the TV on in the background. Not bad.

+1 I had to do a factory reset yesterday, but now my Picasa albums are synced. Totally worth it.

Agreed. I love the Picasa syncing, especially since it does it almost transparently in the background without any interference from the user.

Is there any specific Picasa app on the market I should look into? Or is everyone talking about the webpage in the browser?

Its built in. Basically if you have the web album setting enabled it will show the option your accounts and sync settings page under that account.

Oh, thanks..I'll look into that right now..I have been using the photobucket app, but haven't been too impressed

Update to 2.1 messed up bluetooth streaming audio

Not sure if it's just me or not, I don't have a second droid handy that has 2.0.1 to test, but in my car I have a HD942U with a KCA-BT200 BlueTooth streaming audio and phone adapter.

Yesterday driving home I had 2.0.1 and it worked, this morning with 2.1 I jumped in my car, did my normal, hit play on the remote, and Nada.

Checked the BT settings on the head, said that streaming audio was off.

I've yet to relearn it to the car, I just got to work and as I type this I realize I've missed a troubleshooting step, but I was curious while I wait, if anyone else has had issues with streaming bluetooth.

I also have a pair of bluetooth headphones I'll connect it to when I get home, I was almost late for work as it was :)

Hate to sound like a noob but...

All I had to do to get Picasa to sync was go to Accounts & Sync, Add account then re-enter my same gmail info and check the picasa box. Even though that gmail acct was already in there, it worked perfectly. HTH

Hey everyone, trying to become more involved so i'll post what went down with me.

The update itself was fairly seamless, took about 10 minutes from download to sycn to install/reboot. My major issue was HANDSCENT SMS and SWYPE. It keep freezing to the point where the phone was unusable and not responding to taping the power button. Yes I pulled the battery, when the phone is frozen there is nothing I can do. Froze on me about 3 or 4 times after two battery pulls. Finally when it rebooted and didn't freeze on reboot (after waiting 8 minutes) I deleted swype and reinstalled it. Everything since then has been smooth sailing !

where did u get swype? i cant find it now,i was a beta tester, and it is totally gone since i manually updated.
