Droid 2 global running hot

What does it mean when occassionally the back of my D2 global is hot? Seems like it occurs when I do alot of downloading. I just got the phone yesterday. Should I be concerned? Should I bring it back? or just wait? Any insight would be appreciated

I'm guessing the phone you came from didn't have a 1.2GHz processor. The more active it is, the hotter it gets - just the nature of electronics. Unless it gets too hot to touch I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm a newer Droid 2 Global user myself and yes it gets warms. I had a loaner AT&T iPhone 4 for 3 weeks prior and it got warm too. In fact another iPhone 4 user commented on how warm my phone was compared to theirs. I am a heavy data user (though not streaming data) and the other iPhone 4 user wasn't a big data user.

Like the previous poster, if it isn't too hot to touch, I think it's just the way it is. I'll try and pay attention to where the phone feels hot to me after some heavy usage and post back.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd follow-up. I just got a D2G, and while it clearly needs the extended battery (four hours from full charge and it's down to 30%--clearly the thing should come with the extended battery preinstalled), really my only complaint in the heat issue.

It gets VERY hot near the camera. Not too hot to touch, but uncomfortably hot, like I'm holding on to a hand-warmer.

I previous had the Droid X, and had two different handsets. One got very hot when processing and the other didn't. This leads me to think that not all handsets are the same with these heat issues.

Should I just accept the heat issue with the D2G, or is it possible that a replacement handset will not get a hot? I don't want to replace it and have to set everything up again just to have it have the same issue.

BluePlate - I have the same hotspot as you describe. Doesn't bother me and I imagine replacing it would change nothing. I just wanted to reply as confirmation of what you are experiencing.

Thanks, GeekNJ. I suspect I notice the hotspot more because I'm left handed, so I'm holding it mainly on that side of the phone when it's open.

I'm currently working on battery management, and I'm wondering if that will keep it cooler. We'll see!

UPDATE: I believe I found the app that was draining my battery so badly (words with friends), and I have noticed that the phone isn't consistently hot anymore. It still can get VERY hot in my hand while browsing the web or downloading apps, but it's tapered off to what I'd call "warm" when idle. I still think it gets too hot, but at least it isn't doing it all the time now!

There is just something wrong with the D2G

I have had the Droid 2 (non global) for about 6 months (using an OEM extended battery) with no heat problems. Verizon just sent me a replacement phone for a camera issue and they gave me a Droid 2 Global for some reason... this thing is annoyingly hot, the Droid 2 (non global) never ran hot like this. I am going into a Verizon store to make sure they give me a D2 this time and not a D2G. Just an FYI.
