We made the jump from BB to Android and picked up a D4 Yesterday for the Missus and she's having trouble with the voice search. She hits the mic icon next to the Google search bar and before she can speak she gets a "server not available" (or something close to that) pop up.

Sorry if this is a noob question, but does anyone know what I can try to correct this? FWIW the voice recognition on my Nexus is working like a charm.

Thanks in advance.

Try removing the widget and re adding it. Also power cycle the phone if you havent already. Are any other apps (ie Facebook ) getting similar errors? If so try removing the sim card for at least 30 seconds and then pitting it back in making to re seat it securely and corectly.

I am having the same issue, and also having a problem when the screen times out the phone powers off instead of the display going off. Spoke with verizons tech support and was told since the phone was just released i would need to wait until they had refurbished phones before they could replace . How can they get refurbished phones if they will not let me send the bad ones back

Unless I'm missing something, you have to be within the return window for the phone. They should be forced to replace it with a brand new unit, there's no reason you should be expected to take a refurb on a phone that has been out for like 5 days.

No way. Take it to a Verizon store and have them replace it with another new one.

I'll have to check my wife's D4 to see if her's has the same speech recognition issue.

Have you tried VZWRocks suggestion of removing and adding the widget??

If you do take it in definitely DO NOT take a refurb'd unit. You didn't pay $199 for a used phone right? Have them swap it out for a new one. Try not to pay a restocking fee too if they want you to do that. Bring it in and show them it's all buggered up.

All in all VZW has great customer service and tries to keep the customer happy. One good idea though if you go into a store be nice to them. There's too many people that get frustrated with their phones and take it out on the sales reps/tech support, and that doesn't help anything.

You get more bees with honey ;)

good luck

As long as it is within 14 days and you are getting the SAME device there is no restock fee. Restock fee is there to discourage people from "renting" phones and wasting sales associates time because they didn't take their time to pick the right device.
