Ummm... 'kay.

So I recently got a new laptop (Vista Home Premium, x86) and whenever I connect my Droid to it via USB, the touch screen goes wacky. I tried long-pressing on the home screen last night to change my wall paper and instead of the context menu, I get all sorts of things opening and closing...

Thoughts on a cause?

To get this out of the way now...

My other laptop (XP Professional) does not make the Droid spaz out, nor does a wall charger; and the screen reacts just fine when it's not connected to anything at all.

it might be a faulty driver. Or perhaps just a dirty screen. If you are in a real humid climate your droid may do that. its a characteristic of capacitive touch screens

My droid well all 3 have done the same thing when I would let them charge and try to use it while not holding it just always thought it was due to poor grounding

Non Name Brand wall chargers have always mad ehte Droid's "possessed". It may be the USB cable you are using, or the laptop has some volatage problems with their USB ports. It doesn't matter with most devices, but the Droid is sensitive, I guess.

Faulty driver, maybe (though I d/led if from Moto directly) but not climate or screen as if I unplug the USB from either device the problem goes away.

I've noticed that too, letting it sit on, say, my desk while I swipe through apps or whatever. It seems less responsive (to me) when not in the hand.

Hmm. The USB cable might be the culprit. It's one of the many I've got at the house from my Blackberries (my Moto cable usually stays at the office in my desk). And voltage problems seem more likely now; just had to get the laptop warranty serviced - it would come on for a few seconds, flicker, then turn off.

Maybe the laptop was just messed up somehow?
