Droid Branding...?

according to BMX, this is not a Droid b/c it is not exclusive to VZW...

Dunno about Droid branding but BMX definitely wrong on this one. Not set to hit MetroPCS or Bluegrass so who else has LTE right now?

He means the phone design itself. This is the same as the Inspire and Desire HD, correct? I know internal guts might be different (newer proc, etc.) but I mean the physical phone design.

Merge is basically the Desire Z
ThunderBolt is the Desire HD with upgrades and different design slightly

It may still receive the Droid branding for both the Merge and ThunderBolt
the ThunderBolt was last seen in the Verizon inventory as "Droid ThunderBolt 4G" with a retail MSRP of $615.00.
and if you recall the branding change at the last minute last year with the Incredible, it was originally going to be HTC Incredible and the website first showed that, then a few hours after it was changed to say "Droid Incredible by HTC"
the droid branding wasn't mentioned at the launch event when it was announced.

the screenshot posted on AndroidCentral was updated on 2/11/11

and here's a comparison of photos (first one is the ThunderBolt, second is the Inspire 4G on AT&T, its identical to the Desire HD which also allows it to use the same cases/accessories as the Desire HD in europe)

i understand that verizon might not have payed the extra cash to get this designed specificly for them. but the droid og/2 was released over seas as milestone. droidx has been said to be goin to a regional... so this droid branding doesnt explain anything. that screen shows droid thunderbolt..i say we will see some sort of droid thunderbolt ads

is it just me or does the Thunderbolt's back look SO much cleaner than the Inspire's?

The ThunderBolt isn't entirely Unibody aluminum, the battery cover is plastic, however the rest of the phone is supposedly Unibody aluminum like the Inspire 4G.

on the Inspire all the parts that had to be added to the phones board such as the camera had to have a special cutout since the whole phone is a block of aluminum with only cutouts for the camera, the battery compartment and the SIM/ microSD slot (bottom) its also worth noting that the Camera seems to also be more exposed on the Inspire than on the ThunderBolt, the Incredible's camera was exposed like that causing it to be more susceptible to damage, ThunderBolt's camera lens is a little more recessed but it seems to line up with the battery cover for a flat smooth back for the phone.

Desirehd does not have a FFC? or kickstand? 4G LTE? Audio jack (I think)? 8GB on board memory? bigger speaker? Noise cancellation?

I'm growing weary of people saying the thunderbolt is just a BLANK (insert EVO, Desire HD, etc)

The only time I've said that is when trying to tell somebody what phone I'm waiting for, it's way easier to day "It's kinda like the Evo", but I have never once said it as a slight to the TBolt. I find it annoying as well.

Not to change the subject, but has anyone else noticed that almost every HTC phone has always had the HTC logo on the front except for the Thunderbolt? Nice move Verizon, as if I had forgotten who I had service though.

Droid Incredible doesn't have any HTC branding on the front

Nope...never noticed that

Not the case on ANY of my HTC phones:

HTC 6700 Genius
HTC 6800 Mogul
HTC 6975 Imagio
HTC Incredible

I guess question is this: why does it matter?

It doesn't. Back when the original Droid was released, it was in a class by itself and it and the Eris were the only Android smartphones on Verizon, so they had to differentiate themselves. When the DINC came out, it too was a premier offering so VZW wanted to show it was a premier device, but now many manufacturers are making really good stuff, so IMO there's not much point to continuing the Droid name. A lot of people are aware of Android, and "Droids" are no longer the only premium devices on VZW.
