Droid Camera Focus Issues

Hey gang,

An long-time friend recently bought a Droid, and called me (undoubtedly because I'm a recent Android convert and a photographer) to see if I had any suggestions about the camera focus issues she's experienced with the device. I have an Incredible so I wasn't able to help her much beyond general settings. Has anyone had focus issues and resolved them? If so, can you please share?

Thanks!

I don't use the camera often so I'm not sure what is exactly causing this. I have read that cleaning the lense can fix it but I'm not sure if it is true. Sombody said that oils and durt will affect the auto focus. Couldn't hurt to try it I guess.

What effects the camera on the Droid is the fact that it's a piece of crap :D lol Seriously it's one of the worst still cameras I've ever had on a phone... But at the same time it's one of the best Camcorders Ive had on a phone. (well when it doesn't record with the sound and picture out of sync)

Haven't found any kind of fix for it yet...

I was very disappointed by the pictures my Droid was producing.

However I bought a camera app from the Market and was floored by the picture quality. I haven't seen it discussed in any of the Droid forums otherwise I would have bought a replacement camera app seven months ago! It appears that the native app waits to focus and do all its sensor measurements 'til after you push the camera button. My new app does the focus and sensoring on the fly, capturing the image when the button is pressed. Like a camera should do. I actually enjoy taking pictures with my Droid now.

Thanks. I am going to have my friend register and post her issues in the thread.

I've been playing around with different photo apps on my Incredible. FxCamera, Retro Camera, Vignette. So far, Vignette has impressed me the most because of all the available adjustments.

mind sharing kind sir?

Sorry. I bought Camera ZoomFX. I think 5X Zoom Pro might give a similar improvement over the native app too.
I just chose Zoom FX for all the props n stuff. Makes picks of my daughter a little fun.

Hi all,

Thanks to Matthew for starting this thread for me. My issues with the Motorola Droid camera is that the picture quality is very poor. More times than not, photos come out blurry and very dark. Granted, I'm not the world's greatest photog, so I have everything set to auto (auto focus, auto flash) and the photo quality is still poor. My old phone the LG Env 2took crisper shots than this phone.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix or apps I should download to help? Keep in mind, I'm not looking to do serious photography with this camera phone, however I would like have my shots come out crisp and in focus when I do use the camera.

Cheers!

I was wrong about the focus on the fly. I fiddled around with Camera Zoom FX this afternoon. I have been using it with focus set to Infinity and not Auto. So I've been getting good quality pix without autofocus.
Much sharper pix now. There are three image stablization settings and two different types of image stabilization. Very cool.
I can't write text on my pix like 5X Pro does, but I have a couple of pic editors so I don't need that feature. I'm sure 5X Pro is an excellent camera app.
