I am on my 4th (3rd for actual software problems) Droid. Does anyone know if this dies on me, can I change models to the incredible as I think it is the only other vzw phone with 2.1 that vzw provides (as if the nexus one arrives it appears it will be through their website)?

I really doubt that. They got plenty of refurbished Droid hanging around, where are they going to dump them?

I am happy with my phone right now but if it dies again then I might have to complain for a new model b/c 5 droids in less than a year ridiculous IMO.

You may be able to upgrade. Verizon has a policy that if you get 3 clunkers, they'll swap you out to a different phone. I went through this last year with my old Blackberry Storm. I kept getting clunker after clunker after clunker. Now, here's the thing. If you haven't already, take note of everyone you talk to and everything they tell you. It might save you some frustration. Example: Two of the reps I talked to on the phone told me that I'd be able to swap out no problem. I was told a Tour would be a comparable swap so it wouldn't be a problem. When nothing showed up a week later, I called Verizon to find out what was going on and found out that the work order was not completed. When I set up the exchange again, this rep told me that there would be a charge for the difference between the phones of $150, and that the Tour was not a comparable phone to the Storm. According to this rep, the comparable phones were the Pearl Flip, the Curve, or a couple of previous generation Windows Mobile phones. So, after a day of me being completely pissed the hell off, I called again the next day to figure out what was going on, told the rep I was talking to everyone I talked to and everything they had said, things ended up working out and I got a Tour swapped without getting charged, though this rep informed me that I'd be re-upped for an additional year, which all the other reps failed to tell me. The alternative would have been me taking that $150 and applying it to the early termination fee and telling them where to stick it.

So, long story short, keep notes of who you've talked to, the problems you've had with the phone, and how many times you've had your Droid swapped out. Be prepared to possibly pay a fee to make up for the difference between the cost of the Droid and the Incredible, and don't be surprised if the value of the Droid that they use is moronically low. And be prepared to add another year to your contract. It might be a pain in the ass to deal with, but it may be worth it if the Incredible pans out as a good phone.

this 3 and done thing isnt in effect anymore. i had 5 replacement bb storms in a month. they wanted to send me another just last week. i spent 9 hrs trouble shooting my phone with vzw and rim techs.

after all this i sent a email to the ceo of vzw. they got back to me the following day. went over the notes left by tech support and notes from the service people at the vz store i went to. i answered the phone and asked if it was me they were talking to. lady from some executive committee or something like that said they were sending me a new droid ad wasnt even counting against my upgrade.

But you did get a Droid instead of a storm in the end.

From my experience trying to replace my girlfriends storm, I leard firsthand from a VZW rep that if you replace a device three times due to manufacturer defect (i.e. you didn't do anything to break the phone) within 3 months, they can give you a new device if you demand it.

However, you do not get to pick any device in the store - they probably will not offer you the Incredible, but will offer you the Storm 2, Eris, or Pre. If you are stubborn enough, you may get the Incredible, but I doubt it, as that will be a brand-new device then.

And, as jjimenez09 mentioned, you can call VZW HQ. Look around on comsumerist.com, they may list the sales rep or QA regional controller. I contacted the northeasts about a year ago when my Pearl broke 4 times, and they gave me a new curve.

Edit: Oh and my girlfriend did not have to pay the difference between the storm 1 and 2, but did have her device renewal cycle refreshed (so she's qualified for a device discount in 2 more years).

reps told me the 3 rep in 90 days was no longer in effect. what they had now was 2 options. you can either get another replacement or buy a refurbished phone at a discounted price.

it took me emailing the ceo of my ordeal i had with vzw and blackberry techs, and after they reviewed notes from the tech and such a rep called me and offered me a new phone not a refurbushed.
