Droid managed with Linux?

I was wondering if anyone was aware of whether the Motorola Droid played nice with Linux? I am running Ubuntu on my desktop and want to connect my Droid so I don't have to fight over the laptop. LMAO I was wondering what the experience was like for anyone else out there who may have tried this. Thanks.

Well I haven't tryed with a Linux system since I currently only have a Windows set up (For now). However, Android is based off of the Linux kernel so I would have to say using a Linux system would probably be the most optimal choice in the matter.

Ubuntu works with the phone out of the box. Plug it in and double click the icon that appears on your desktop.

I find a better experience using linux (Slackware or Ubuntu) than I do when I'm forced to boot to Windows.

Think of your phone as if it were your desktop. Android is Gnome. The apps are just accessories installed into Android, like gimp or empathy are installed into Gnome. On your desktop, Gnome runs on top of linux with a kernel that loads specifically tailored for your hardware. On your phone, Android runs on top of linux with a kernel that loads specifically tailored for your hardware. Of course this is simplified a bit, but it's the general idea.

It works like a charm with linux. I run 9.1 and have had zero problems with the phone and the OS playing together. As long as you arent running 4.0+ ( which I dont think the og droid ever got, linux doesnt natively support mtp yet), you should be fine. Linux has built in support for mass usb storage, you dont even have to install the drivers.
