Droid Maxx charging LED

Has anyone seen this thing work? Look at the manual for the droid maxx and it shows a charging LED by the earpiece. I figured maybe it only works for wireless charging... I wonder if it can be hacked to show notifications, although it would probably need a kernel patch, which means root...

As far as I know being a kernel patch would require an unlocked bootloader. Right now kernels are untouchable.

I've never looked at the manual. Lol so I had no idea there was an LED there.

Interested I did not see that note in the manual. "LED will come on when the charging the phone but the battery is to weak to turn on the display"

If you have root you can modify the existing Kernel and then just reboot for the changes to take. To flash a new kernel you would need an unlocked bootloader.

I plan on holding off root on this phone as long as possible, but I can already think I want to see cool things with the charging led, and a way to change the brightness of the home, back, switcher buttons... Not liking how those stay lit while watching something on youtube...

I think I remember someone stating that the latest OTA fixes the backlit buttons turning off when watching Netflix. I'm not sure about YouTube

YouTube and Hulu stay activated but are a lot dimmer than before.
