DROID Maxx Pre-Order on Wirefly.

In reply to why not go comcast/vzw route I have Two words:

Sales Tax.

In CA, we pay tax on the full price of the phone, if go the comcast/verizon route I'll be paying tax on a $600-700 phone at 9%.

Know anyone in Oregon?

You don't need to be a Comcast or Xfinity customer to qualify. http://www.comcast.com/wireless.html
I'm not sure non Comcast customers will qualify for the gift card.

From the Details and Restrictions link:
Prepaid Card Offer: Prepaid Card mailed to Comcast account holder within 6 weeks of service activation and funds expire in 90 days. Card issued by Citibank, N.A. pursuant to a license from Visa? U.S.A Inc. and managed by Citi Prepaid Services. Cards will not have cash access and can be used everywhere Visa? debit cards are accepted.

From the FAQ:
Who is eligible for Comcast?s special offer on Verizon Wireless?
The offer is limited to Comcast residential TV, Internet or Voice customers. Requires new Verizon Wireless tablet activation or new two-year activation of a new Verizon Wireless smartphone by calling Comcast. Both new and existing Verizon Wireless customers are eligible.

I am in the same boat as alot of others although I didn't order my phone until 8/27. I went through Newegg when they had the phone listed at $179.99 but since I placed the order I have received no updates or shipping dates. I really want to wait but the idea of waiting weeks doesn't really excite me. I'm still running an original Droid X from 3 years ago and would love to get my hands on a new phone.

Anyways I just talked to a Rep at Newegg Wireless about 15 minutes ago and although he couldn't give me a firm date on when devices would ship he gave me the "If you were to ask me personally when I thought they would ship" speech and he said that the Maxx will becoming readily available by like Friday. So on that note I think I will at least hold out another week. Getting the Maxx for $179 is just too good to give up quite yet!

I had posted early that in Los Angeles I save $156 by going through wirefly. I ordered mine on the 20th. Newegg, Sams Club, and Radio Shack all sell their online phones through same company as Wirefly. It is a little weird that they wont post that this device has been back ordered or an ETA. Just a not a good way of treating their customers... After all its no loner a pre order as they call it because the phones were released 3 weeks ago.

For what its worth I went with the Comcast route, paid $20 in DC sales tax. Ordered over the phone 5pm Tuesday, phone shipped out Wednesday afternoon and will be here Friday.

With a phone in hand and a reduced Comcast bill, I'm happy.

OK, I admit it. Now I'm getting a bit anxious like most of you....I've been reading about it for two weeks, making notes and all, even changing many setttings on my orig. Razr, which makes it better! But...c'mon. Now even I'm growing impatient. For $100? I could have found someone to pay for that, surely!

As of yesterday it is no longer back ordered on Verizon's website. Still not available at best buy...

I gave in. Did the Comcast deal. Kept unlimited data on contact. Loving this thing.

did the samething last night. I have my shipping number and same price as wirefly. Coming this Tuesday.

After much hassle I got Verizon to overnight it and credit my account for the extra cost.

Just wanted to report another success story on the trade up program. I used a $23 Admiral I picked up from eBay. Be persistent...the Verizon rep kept giving me reason after reason why I did not qualify for the offer. Finally, after checking with his manager, he processed the trade in and I got my $100 gift card.

Yup, me too - $20 admiral. Store associates were clueless about the program.

As of Monday Sept 9 they are available at the Best Buy stores in Los Angeles. So maybe, just maybe those of us still waiting for wirefly.com will
get some good news :-)

Bestbuy website says unavailable around LA. Also not available in the state of CT.

It worked... Mototradeup! $100 for X2 and new Maxx today!. It took forever to convince the VZW sales staff that this was a valid offer and that they needed to follow certian directions, but once they did, it was all there.

Ordered from Wirefly on 8/20 ... still nothing. It sounded great, order through Wirefly and save $100, but it's just not reality. I don't see any reason for them to fill the order. I will have to cancel and do the Comcast thing.

They just don't have the phones, like most non-VZW outfits...believe me, they want to sell them! I await as well.
