DROID MAXX Specs

Does anyone else feel like once these new Droids are released, their will be a Droid Ultra HD Maxx version just come out a couple months after. I've been burned by Motorola with the Bionic as others were with the Razr before and am not sure if I want to upgrade knowing something better is just around the corner.

By DROID ULTRA HD MAXX, are you implying we may get 1080 variants of the DROID ULTRA and DROID MAXX rather quickly?

For the record, as a Bionic owner I never felt burned by the release of the RAZR. The Bionic was probably two to three months late. That wasn't going to push back the release of the RAZR.

Doubtful, I also look at the original RAZR Maxx as a rarity and it was done so Motorola could also claim they had the thinnest phone. In this case you're given three choices right out of the gate so nothing will change. You may get lucky and see a 1080 version next year but not before that. By next year I mean next fall when the second generation Droid Ultra and Maxx will launch.

Apparently there isn't anything but an all-black device being offered. Does that have to do with the materials used in the case? Also, anyone have a clue to 3rd party cases for the Droid Maxx? Doesn't seem to be any yet.

No clue but I hope CruzerLite offers their case soon. By far the best TPU case I've ever used on a phone. The only reason I'm not using one on my Note II is because Samsung offers a sleek case of their own.

Diztronic makes the best TPU cases I've used.

You will see a pretty significant drop in display quality. Even thought the Note 2 has the same resolution on a bigger screen, the Note 2 is RGB AMOLED, which is a rarity. The NONRGB AMOLED on the DROID MAXX will leave MUCH to be desired.

Everything else seems fine though, except MicroSD. :'(

i've looked everywhere to see if it will be a true RGB Amoled but haven't found any definitive proof.

where were you able to confirm this?

There was an interview with a Moto rep I read that said it wasn't Pentile...but people also said the S4's 'Diamond Matrix' wasn't PenTile at first. I'm really hoping its RGB AMOLED like the Moto X.

So much about the X and the Droid line are similar, from processor to software, etc. I can't imagine why Motorola would employee two different types of screens. I get a feeling they kept things similar to keep costs down and hopefully make updates easier. I mean, other than battery capacity, screen size and the X's customization features and outer appearance, all 4 devices are basically the same and should perform similarly.

It can't be by accident.

This makes perfect sense.

I think the DROIDs have a bit of "Blur" in them.

Do we know if the X has the Circles widget DROID Command Center? I didn't notice the X having the notification badges on the app icons that the DROID-line gets either.

yes it would. Except that's not how it is in real life. They are using LCD on the DMINI, and AMOLED RGB (S-stripe like on the NOTE 2, not RGB Stripe) on the other 3 phones. None of them are pentile. Thank god!

I was hoping for RGB Stripe. I'll have to see it in person, I wasn't overly impressed with the Note 2.

I hope PenTile dies. Yuck.

each pixel still has an R, G and B subpixel. Just the B subpixel is bigger so that it can emit the same amount of light as the R and G with less current. This prevents the B subpixel from wearing out quicker than the other subpixels, as is the tendency on OLED displays.

Reviews of the screen on the moto x say has a warm color temperature.

I was disappoint when I heard that about the Mini, but I guess it's what they had to do to keep cost down. Hopefully it rocks solid battery still with active notifications because it seems like a solid, bargain device. I've been impressed with initial reviews of the Moto X. The way I use a phone, the freakin' Maxx should last me 3 days. As it is, I drag my GNex out over 18 hours or so (at home on WiFi).

I'm on the vzw gnex too. i actually thought that the moto x seems like a better way to go than the mini. even with the small screen i don't think the mini is much smaller than the X. And the X has 2200mah battery, instead of a 2000 mah in the mini, and the RGB oled, as you mentioned is better for active display. So the mini seems irrelevant. As does the ultra.

I rarely can my Note II going for that long considering my screen is on a ton from Web surfing and text messaging. Don't get me wrong my Note II has great battery life but I'd love to have more and the Droid Maxx will provide that. If the screen looks as good as my Note II I'll be happy.

The Mini at $100, X at $200 and Maxx at $300 is the way they should have went. The Ultra is pretty much useless. I did buy the Ultra because I got it for $100, but if I was a regular consumer I wouldn't even look at it.

As for the screen, the Note 2 looks great with 720p RGB. Knocking off half an inch should help quite a bit with clarity.

That slimness though. + bigger screen.

But yeah. The Ultra probably shouldn't exist.

The droid maxx quantum is rumored now. So I guess I was right about a 1080p version coming soon after it's release.
