DROID MAXX will be upgraded to KitKat (Android 4.4)

ICS killed your Bionic? Really? it made mine so much better. It was like having a new phone. JB on the other hand made my Bionic a bit sluggish

Yep, ICS was terrible. Like I said, many of my apps wouldn't work. They'd just crash. Also it would drain my battery really quickly and I had the extended battery. Once I upgraded to JB all the apps worked again and the battery life was more normal. The only issued I noticed with JB is some kind of error message would pop up every once in a while. It had no effect on my phone, though. I was just happy to have my working properly again.

I don't think past experiences with Motorola updates really apply here. If they can work the magic it took to make the MAXX run so good out of the box, I think they can handle an update no problem. Every motorola prior to the ultra/maxx/mini/X had a terrible OS experience out of the box, this is a fresh start for Motorola, and so far they've got it right.

The soak test invites already went out. I would assume that means something will happen pretty soon. Do we think they would push a bug fix instead of just waiting until they push kk? Maybe I'm an optimist, but I'm hoping we will see it very soon.

I am sure that the OTA will be the patch update sent to the Moto X, with updates to the VZW bloat on the Droids. KitKat I am sure will come to the X before it comes to the Droids. I'd say that we should probably expect 4.4 about 4-6 weeks after the X starts getting it.

4.4 is built so that devices that have only 512 MB of RAM can run it - as far as I know, there may have been only one phone with 512 MB of RAM running ICS and JB, and that was the Nexus S, and it ran terribly on the phone - and the Maxx has 2 GB of RAM. There is no way that KK is going to make the Maxx sluggish if that is the case.

Hey guys. What are the big differences between 4.2.2 and 4.4?

I have to agree. GB had my bionic so unstable it would constantly lock up and endless frustration. ICS made it a usable phone. JB, with all of it's awesome features, made it incredibly slow, though very stable.

The Maxx keeps me in awe daily after my two years of the bionic.

We're still waiting for the camera fix that the Moto X got already, I'm not holding my breath for something much larger if there's this much time difference for a simple camera fix.

The MAXX has been out barely over 2 months, and the Moto X camera update has been out like 2 weeks. A 2 week delay and you're doubting if we'll ever get an OS update that they've outright said we will get? Could you be more impatient?

No. I said I'm not holding my breath. That didn't mean I think it won't ever come, just that it's not imminent.

Feel free to keep your judgmental snarks about other people's patience level to yourself in the future.

Punit soni has already said the Moto X will get updates before the droid line. Just because the Moto X got the camera update first doesnt mean we won't for a while. There were already soak test emails sent out so I think in the next 2 weeks we will have the update. I also am betting we don't get 4.3 why bother when 4.4 is out. I think we will go straight to 4.4 and we will get there by February that is my prediction based off of nothing but pure conjecture and common sense. Moto X is the pre cursor for the droid line anyway so when they give a update for the Moto x I think within weeks we will be updated to that OS. So I am waiting to see what OS Moto x gets 4.3 or 4.4 what ever they get I bet we get.

I got a soak email and have yet to even receive the update related to the soak. We're probably into Dec before the 4.3 update goes through to the masses.

I agree. Don't expect 4.3, the MAXX has TRIMM and much of 4.3 already. The move to 4.4 makes sense as a next step.

The Motorola X soak test invite emails were sent October 15. The soak was sent to phones on October 22. The final update was sent out to everyone by October 25.

The Droid Maxx soak test invites apparently went out October 28. If the Moto X is close to what will happen with the Maxx, the soak testers will start getting updates tomorrow. I'd say that this will be delivered to all phones well before December - but, there is no way that this is 4.3 or 4.4. This will be the camera update, the assist update, and some other bug fixes, still on 4.2.2. But, if the Moto X really is a good model for this, we should be hearing more in less than 24 hours, as I'm sure that some soak testers will ignore the part about agreeing not to publicize anything.
