This may be my one and only message I'll ever post --- I hope android developers listen
There are two issues I want to address

One is that it appears we have lost the concept of Phone in our (claimed) "advances" it takes multiple buttons to make a call -- It should be phone first - text second - email third - net fourth -- games/music and misc junk later - as it stands Android phones are a game toy (expensive) that also can emulate a phone

Two - having checked with various app developers it appears that they have no access to the contact list -- WHY NOT ? - this would allow so many other option ++ linking to our customer database to GPS to billing ++ alowing special ringer settings for groups so that realtives can ring 24/7 friends 6am - 9pm - customers 8am - 5pm or whatever three or four configurable settings we want and dozend other options

I am new to the Android world , having been dragged into it screaming and kicking and though I can see benefits I can find hundreds of shortcommings , some made up by apps - but the system creates limits on those - one I mentioned above & the other mentioned beyond any apps ability (phone first)
android (any smart phone system) needs to decide if they are a phone with functions or a game machine with phone abilities -- as a working man I need the first

Screaming and kicking huh? People never cease to amaze me.....

Learn your OS and you will have a different outlook Mr. Opinion, lol!

I unlock mine and can dial from main homescreen. It is as fast as any phone I have used to call someone. I am sure those nano seconds are mighty important...

Sounds to me like you should have bought a feature phone. Or maybe a Blackberry. Like it or not, smartphones are going to get more like computers, not less. Kick and scream if you must, but you will learn as have all old geezers before you that change is inevitable.

No you can not have access to my contacts. Big companies pay good money for stuff like that. We're not just gonna let some app developer have access.

You should check out the iPhone. And there's nothing wrong with that

Android users are fairly intelligent and most won't give their contact data away. You should have done some more research. A recent example of this is LinkedIn, which changed its permissions to view contact data. They didn't give a reason why and now have a massive backlog of one star reviews and uninstallations.

As for your dialing issues as has been said you need to learn how to use your mobile, I can dial in just a few steps.

Don't know what carrier you use but Verizon offers intro to Android classes online and in store. If you are not with Verizon, you may want to check with your carrier to see if this is an option. You may benefit from it.
